Guest guest
The problem with the ADA Month of Meals is the ADA promotes the " exchange plan " which is definitely NOT lowcarb. Many of their meals have up to 80 carbs - or more - per meal. Some people still manage to reduce their BGs using this system but lowcarbing is much less complicated and potentially more successful system, IMHO. Better suggestions come from the Lowcarb Receipe Exchange at the CarbSmart website. I think that's one of our links at the bottom of the page. Join and you'll get lowcarb recipes via email almost every day. Vicki << I bought cook books from the American Diabetes Association when I first found out I had diabetes. Month Of Meals. It made meal planning very easy.. Tell your husband that his readings will slowly come down to normal or close to that after he has been on the meds for a couple of weeks or longer. Guest guest
Thanks for all the great ideas everyone! I have to admit that I have been rather puzzled by what I have learned so far about the " exchange " thing. It seemed very high carb to me but then I thought...I just must not be understanding this thing. I myself had the Duodenal Switch Gastric Bypass surgery with Dr. Hess back in April and I am supposed to be eating High Protein, low carbs low sugar. This is very similar to what I thought my husband should be eating. (although not as much protein as I am supposed to eat)Too bad he wasnt as overweight as I was... the DS virtually cures diabetes type II. Oh well! Just a note on the side...about the low carb tortillas...why couldnt you spray them lightly with some non stick spray then bake them. Use em for tostadas, or just for dipping in salsa, or coating in the cinnamon/sweetner mixture? Not Fried...Would that work?? Yum...sounds good! Mexican food is our favorite. Hope we dont have to give it up. Thanks again for the helpful hints everyone! a G. PS..I'll check out that CarbSmart site! > The problem with the ADA Month of Meals is the ADA promotes the " exchange > plan " which is definitely NOT lowcarb. Guest guest
2 books that are must reads in my opinion: Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution by K. Bernstein and Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. Both these books will help you a whole lot with newly dx'd diabetes.
