Guest guest
It sounds like your oncologist is paying attention! Good choice of oncologist! The FISH test should be done in the case of Her2 +2. Herceptin might help you, too. Janie > > I met with the oncologist yesterday to discuss my chemo. Guest guest
I believe Her2 0+ means " negative " and the FISH test is not needed. You might check again with the doctor to be sure you got the 0+ correct. Janie > > > > I met with the oncologist yesterday to discuss my chemo. Guest guest
Dear Ren, Hope this helps: 10 Questions to Ask the Medical Oncologist Why are you recommending this therapy? What are the risks? Are there other ways to treat the cancer? Where do I go for chemotherapy or hormone therapy? How long does treatment last? What are the risks and side effects? Will my hair fall out? Will it regrow? What about premature menopause and infertility? What should I avoid during treatment? Should I change my diet or lifestyle? The other question is about side-effects. Make sure you have the ammunition you need "before" the side-effects kick in...many times they give you samples too. Regard,

Guest guest
Dear Lynn, I have been through (7) of those intensive doses - one every other week, and my oncologist mentioned the same thing about reoccurence. He told me that as long as you have a healthy heart (through MUGA scan results) and the fact that I'm 45 (supposedly that's considered "young") I was an excellent candidate for this trial. It also cut 8 weeks off treatment which is a positive as well. The only down side from this experience is that I have side-effects for about 3-5 days after treatment, and one "good" week where I almost feel myself, only to go back again the following week and start all over. But last one is on Tuesday!!!!! Love,

Guest guest
Ren, Ask about side effects, the type of chemo, the length of time you will be getting it, is it pill form, IV push etc. There are lots more question you could ask but right now I can't think of anything. I am sure some of the other ladies will come up with ideas. You are in my prayers. Guest guest
Ren, My oncologist (I met with him on Wednesday) said that the women who have chemo every two weeks rather than every three weeks have less chance of recurrence. It's called dose intensive chemo. Of course, more drugs need to be taken to counteract the chemo (such as procrit to help build up red blood cells - I'm sure we've all seen ads on TV for it). My tumor was hormone positive, which means I can take tamoxifen after chemo to reduce the chance of recurrence even more. I am still waiting for the FISH test on my tumor, as I was HER2 2+. This will tell if a new drug Herpecin would be of benefit. You can read more about that here http://www.breastcancer.org/herceptin_treatment.html If you oncologist is any good, he will answer all your questions before you even get to ask them! Mine did. But hopefully, this will give you an idea for some questions you could ask. Guest guest
Wow, I bet you can't wait until Tuesday. Good for you. I had my MUGA heart scan on Friday, and all is normal, so I'm good to go. And I really like the idea of cutting off 8 weeks too. Wish I could cut off more!
