Guest guest
Kathleen, It's not impolite at all to ask how long it took me to make KOPS! I guess it took 26 years, because that's how long I have belonged to TOPS!! I started at 210 pounds, was within 10 pounds of goal several times - then would quit going to meetings for one reason or another, and would gain all my weight back. I hovered at 20 pounds from goal for several years, then in January of 2004 I decided to get serious, and it took me 4 months to get to goal. I made my goal on May 6, 2004. I had the doctor set my goal at 5 pounds more than what I would actually like to weigh - - - thus the obsession with getting 5 pounds UNDER goal by the time I graduate at SRD. A very dear coordinator friend advised me to ask my doctor to set my goal 5 pounds over what I'd like to weigh - so I could get UNDER and not have to struggle within that 3# leeway OVER goal! I think it was very good advice, but not all doctors are willing to go along with what WE want - - - they set goals at what THEY want! My BOTTOM LINE ADVICE is to NEVER QUIT GOING TO MEETINGS TO WEIGH IN!! Some people might be able to maintain their weight loss without those weekly weigh ins - - but I'm not one of them, and I think 99% of TOPS members are in my same situation. If they had been able to do it without help, they probably wouldn't have come to TOPS in the first place! So - - like the TOPS Helping Hand verse goes, "WHEN I BECOME AN HONORED KOPS, I'LL GIVE THE CREDIT TO TOPS"!! And I certainly do give 100% credit to TOPS; I'm quiet sure I'd be way over 210 pounds by now if I hadn't discovered TOPS all those years ago. And by-the-way, I am 5'6" and my goal weight is 160, so I lost 50 pounds to goal - - - and hope to lose 5 more by SRD time. For my other statistics: I will be 65 years old in April; I have been married to the same "tolerant" man for 48 years; I have two handsome sons - Don 45 & Rusty 42; I have 5 beautiful grandchildren - two boys/ 22 & Coby 20, three girls/Madison 16, 15 & Lindsey 10!! All of my grandchildren live right here in Midland, so I am very blessed to be able to have a close relationship with all of them. I have lived in West Texas all my life - except for one fantastic year in Germany (when my husband was in the Army), and one miserable year in Houston! So that's probably MORE THAN YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW!!! LOL ((((HUGS))) Clara No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
HI Clara, your story sounds like mine, I joined tops on jan 9 1969, I weighed 156 lbs got down close to my goal many times but never made kops, I was a leader in 1973 and I gruduated more kops then all the other leaders had done (must have been good at helping others) but not to good at helping myself, any way I decided to quiet tops i was getting fed up and thought WW would work better did the same thing with WW, well that didnt work that well I quiet then went back to WW I did this for yrs and yrs and never did get to goal, well as you all know WW is darn expensive, so I thought Im going to join the Diet center, well I lost 46 lbs but I did weigh 192 that was in 1989 it cost me 600 bucksI kept it off for yrs and then I gained 20 lbs WW was to expensive Diet center was gone from our home town so I went back to went TOPS I weighed 179.1/2 lbs that was in 02 I did everything I knew how to do but i wasnt losing weight, then one day I weighed in and lost 4 lbs that was sept 03 I was so happy I thought this is it Im going to continue to lose and I did, it took me 2 yrs and on January 04 2 days before going on our first cruise (45 ann) I became KOPS, it took me 35 yrs and 19 1/2 lbs off,and Im so proud to say I did it in tops , not WW not Diet center... thank You TOPS and thanks you for all your support YOU ARE ALL TOPS IN MY BOOKS .....HelenTonya wrote: That a very nice History...and sounds like you have been very blessed.... Guest guest
Helen, I too joined Weight Watcher's twice - - - but didn't last long because I couldn't afford the meetings. And I didn't like sitting in a room, listening to a lecture, and never getting to know any of the other people who were sitting around me! VERY IMPERSONAL!! I listen to all of the commercials on TV about the other diet programs - Craig, LA Weight Loss, etc., but I think they would all be terribly expensive, especially buying their food! And how is eating their food going to help you when you have to fix meals on your own? Unless you want to buy their packaged food for the rest of your life?? I have a friend who lost her weight with LA Weight Loss, but she is having a terrible time maintaining. In fact, she has raised her goal - - and is again struggling to stay in leeway! YEP, TOPS IS DEFINITELY THE WAY TO GO!!! ((((HUGS))) Clara No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
