Guest guest
Sher, After my OLB when my DX was NSIP...I asked if my pottery was a possible cause. They said "NO" -- Z.fibriotic NSIP/05/ "mild" PH 10/07 PA Reynaud's too!!! Potter, reader, carousel lover, and MomMom to Darah "I'm gonna be iron like a lion in Zion." Bob Marley -------------- Original message -------------- ...yes, it is my understanding that IPF can be genetic. Perhaps that is the "cause" of mine. There are two other possibilities. One, I lived on an Army Base w/husband; Camp Hanford, in Wash. state. Plutonium was manf. there at that time. My thyroid was affected. Second; I used to do ceramics and breathing in the dust from cleaning greenware is certainly a possibility. Me thinks I need to work harder on "acceptance".I guess the "how" is not as important as the "now". Thanks. Sher; ipf 3-06; OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
I started going over possible causes and I hit everyone possible except smoking and even hit that second hand. The reality is we don't know the causes and know so little about it at this point. > > ...yes, it is my understanding that IPF can be genetic. Guest guest
......I asked my pulmo 2 years ago about my parrot and he blew it off......a few weeks ago when my son went to the IPF seminar in Seattle they discussed it at length. Even to point out that the breed I had was/is the worst offender. Guest guest
I didn't interpret that as blanket at all and I do agree. I was pleased today that before my appointment with my pulmonologist he had done additional research to be better prepared just for me. He had updated himself on the happenings of the last month even in the treatment world and with clinical trials. However, I do know that many pulmonologists are overworked and under informed. They don't allocate the time for keeping up-not sure when mine did because he was making rounds at 10 pm still when I was in the hospital. They also are not nearly as informed on the whole as they need to be in helping us live better. I think mine was a little shocked with how much I had educated myself and my questions. I don't know about other areas but around here there is a huge shortage of pulmonologists compared to the need and demand. The ones who are practicing are terribly tied up in the hospitals with critical care and lack the office time and the study time to keep up. I only see it getting worse too as all the major lung diseases are increasing greatly. > Sher, After my OLB when my DX was NSIP...I asked if my pottery was a possible cause. They said " NO " > > -- > Z.fibriotic NSIP/05/ " mild " PH 10/07 PA > Reynaud's too!!! > Potter, reader, carousel lover, and MomMom to Darah > " I'm gonna be iron like a lion in Zion. Guest guest
Sher, Yes there's dust especially when finishing a fired piece. The dry clay is dusty of course. The docs are not concerned...I wear a respirator mask with filters and my O2 of course. They have not stopped me from working in the studio at school...the studio has very advanced exhaust systems. I also wear the same system when using the glazes too. What type of ceramics did you work with ? I think there is another group member who worked in the kiln area of a ceramics factory. Guest guest
Z...I didn't "work" in any factory. I purchased greenware (before firing) and the process of cleaning it is extremely dusty! Right under my nose of course because I'm holding in my hands. I often took classes and in a room full of others doing the same thing the dust was the air we breathed. I used glazes too. I think pottery and ceramics would be similar...both in raw form. Ceramics are molded into various shapes and then the cleaning/firing begins. I only recently thought of this...will ask my Dr. next visit. Sher; ipf 3-06; OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there!

Guest guest
Sher.....only to relieve your curiosity will I admit to my really stupid question. There is this phenomenon....goes like this.......you meet someone and introduce yourself and say "I'm from Alaska". The other person says "Oh, my brother lives in Alaska, do you know Joe Blow?" as if you know all half a million Alaskans. Hope that makes sense. So......A long time ago I went to school in Southern Oregon. I knew a young woman, her name was Sharon, but she went by Sher. I think her last name was spelled Bowman. I recently heard that she is sick with a lung disease.......turns out it is cancer. Voila'.... told ya it was a dumb question.........oxygen deprivation......... jim IPF 05 AlaskaSher Bauman wrote: Jim...curiosity has the best of me. Guest guest
Z...I loved ceramics. I started out waaaaay back with a coffee cup and gradually perfected enough to see pieces in shows. Wish I could do it now. It is a stress reliever for me but I wouldn't chance it even with a mask. So anyway, we know the "dust" issue but as I said previously, "how" I got this stuff is not so important as living "now". Have a good one.
