It's almost like a button, about 1" in diameter, made of plastic. I only have one arm to use for chemo because I had 26 nodes removed in my left arm (unuseable). I hope this helps. Some doctors prefer it because incidences of infection are less. MY husband had both, and had an infection with the button under the skin. MD uses the other kind. The one with the tubing extending from the connector part needs to be flushed or used daily, the button under the skin needs to be used or flushed at least once a month. One is called a port, the other a catheter, I think.
