Guest guest
Just to throw something else in the mix...we had a JCAHO consultant come to our facility 2 weeks ago who was a surveyor for years. I inquired specifically re: the pt identifiers in the OP setting and in relation to using 2 identifiers for all treatments (vs. just those involving medications, etc.). He expressed that if our OP policy specifically describes that we use 2 pt identifiers for the procedures involving meds - ie, ionto/phono, that we should be okay, and that we shouldn't have to use 2 pt identifiers every single time the patient walks through the door. I realize that there is SO much variance between surveyors and what one picks on, the other will ignore. Ultimately, some of this stuff seems like overkill. Our goal is patient safety. If we clearly state our policies and if those policies are geared toward maximizing patient safety AND if we follow the policies we state, I would like to think we'd be okay. Who knows?!@? Just thought I'd share... Cederlind, OTR/L Director of Rehab Services Emanuel Medical Center Turlock, Ca P.S. Why would an outpatient want to pose as someone else and come in for someone else's treatment anyway? I suppose there are many crazy people out there, so I guess it could happen. Has anybody experienced this? Just blowing off steam this lovely Friday afternoon... >>> AnnOdonnell@... 8/26/2005 11:18:08 AM >>> Chad, We use the same in our Hospital Based Outpatient Department - Name and DOB. By the second or third visit the patient pops up and states their name and DOB before we can even ask HA! I also asked this same question awhile ago on PT Manager and got the same response. Also, our area hospitals use the same too. Is anyone else using something different? It seems silly to have someone state their DOB each time they come to therapy when we know who they are. Please give any input...thanks in advance.
