Guest guest
Now they want me to get a port because my veins are getting too small. Do any of you have a port and if you do how do you like it? Take care, God Bless, Love, Sharon F. I've had a port since mid-October 2003. It's great. Go for it. My arm veins are small, too, and in the past: (1) have gotten irritated and swollen in the past after prolonged use for an IV and (2) they are hard to get a needle into and sometimes I had to get stuck in several spots before they hit the vein. Not so with the port. Easy to find - one prick and the needle is in. No pain during use. It's been used to draw blood samples and inject the chemo. And much more comfortable to have the IV tubes hanging over my shoulder than down my arm. Debbie

Guest guest
I have had to have three of them and I have told the dr's if I am ever put in the hospital to just put the port in first...but don't know if they will do it or not....the port I think is the only way to go...they do everything through the port...shots, Iv's, transfusions, chemo, blood work....if it has a needle on the other end it goes through the port....what sort of side affects are you to look for from the blood transfusion....I always felt so much better after one....Prayers for you.... sharon_19462002 <no_reply > wrote: Dear Ladies, I had my blood transfusion this morning. Guest guest
Thank you about the port. Sounds good. I think I am going to be OK now after my transfusion the way I feel today. I was just worried about the temperature I had. Other side effects to watch for are headache, backache, chills, fever, chest pain, blood in urine, and I think that is about it. Love, Sharon F. > I have had to have three of them and I have told the dr's if I am ever put in the hospital to just put the port in first...but don't know if they will do it or not....the port I think is the only way to go...they do everything through the port...shots, Iv's, transfusions, chemo, blood work....if it has a needle on the other end it goes through the port....what sort of side affects are you to look for from the blood transfusion....I always felt so much better after one....Prayers for you.... > > sharon_19462002 <no_reply > wrote:Dear Ladies, I had my blood transfusion this morning. Guest guest
Dear Sharon, I'm glad you went for the transfusions...now hopefully your blood levels will remain good from here on in. I had a port put in 2 weeks after my double mastectomy. It sits under my skin between my shoulder and my upper chest. Only 1" or so in diameter. It wasn't a big deal, compared to the surgery I had just gone through. Because they recommended double chemo, and the fact they cannot use my left veins (lymphedema), I only had one set left, so it was highly recommended. It really hasn't given me any trouble and when chemo is over, it will be removed. They take blood from the port, as well as using it for intraveous chemo. Hope you're feeling a little better and that temperature has gone away. Best,

Guest guest
Dear Sharon, I'm so sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Nothing's worse than not feeling yourself, especially w/all those symptoms. I hope today brings you back to your old self again! I never had a flu shot before - am going to oncologist tomorrow - I will ask that question for you. I have chemo at 9:30 tomorrow (and then ONE MORE BABY!!!!!) and I will check with you after that. Guest guest
Dear , if I may ask how come you had to stay in the hospital several days afters your transfusions? I got sick last nite and thought for a moment I might have to go in. I had a fever, chills, headache, backache, just like I had the flu so I took 3 tylenol and went to bed. Today I feel OK so far. I hope I don't feel that way tonite again.
