Hello rgarr@...,

In reference to your comment:

ð I'm on 1000 mg once a day after my dinner meal.

#1 you should have been started at 500mg once a day, and after your gut got

used to that increased to 1000. stay at 500 for a week or two, before

increasing to 1000.

#2 you should have been told to take this medication in the MIDDLE of your

meal... ie eat some, take pill, eat some more...

Hi Ron,

Welcome to the group!

I take Glucophage XR 2000 MG once a day, with my noon meal. I take it

just after I have begun to eat so that it is " buried " in some food in

my stomach. Since I have been doing this, I no longer have a problem

with it. Before, when I would take it on an empty stomach when I first

got up in the morning, I had terrible bouts of diarrhea, usually right

after eating lunch and again later in the afternoon. The change to

taking it with a meal has allowed me to stay on the medication.

When I was on Glucophage (850mg 3x daily), had lots of gastro-intestinal

problems or loose stools and diarrhea almost on a daily basis. When I

was changed to Glucophage XR (2000mg 1x daily at dinner), those problems

disappeared almost immediately. What a relief!
