Good morning group!

I am looking for information on average missed visits in acute care.

Do you have a threshold of " acceptability " after which you pursue

additional staff hired?

Thanks!

Hi

It depends on why you have the missed visits. We track missed visits

under 8 different categories. Here are our categories and our

percentages for last year. I use two criteria for justifying additional

staff. Missed treatments due to lack of time and missed treatmens due

to discharge prior to assessment. I use refusals as a comparison

between staff to see if their are quality of care issues. I look at

unanticipated discharges to see if staff are padding their schedules to

keep their days easier. 15% missed treatments due to lack of time

equates to a full FTE of missed treatments, thus my recommendation for

additional staff. To qualify we have to meet all productivity standards

(80% of time in direct patient care and 65% of time in chargeable

patient care) and have a three month history of exceeding the 15%

threshhold.

Missed due to conflicting procedure PT 2.2% OT 2.1% SLP 2.7%

Missed due to patient refusal PT 4.1% OT 3.7% SLP 1.7%

Missed due to medical hold PT 5.2% OT 6.1% SLP 14.8%

Missed due to unanticipated discharge PT 10.81% 11.0% SLP 7.9%

Missed due to lack of time PT 8.5% OT 11.8% SLP 2.2%

Missed due to discharge prior to initial assessment PT 1.2% OT 2.6%

SLP .6%

Missed due to lack of MD order PT .5% OT 1.6% SLP 4.5%

Missed for other reason PT 2.5% OT 4.8% SLP 7.2%
