I also get pains in the neck, shoulder and front and back torso. I always thought it was cramping simply because I did not exercise sufficiently. I find that doing stretches helps some. I'm a believer in chiropractic care and didn't have these things when I could afford regular chiropractic. O2 sats may play a part. Try some mild stretches of shoulders and neck on a regular basis to see if that helps any. Google stretching because there are certain neck stretches that are potentially dangerous to everyone. Hope this helps. Peace be with you. Bonnie Faulkner / IPF - 1/06 / SC

K, At times I have the between the shoulder pain worse that

others. My Pulm. Dr said to get two cans and do are exercises and it

will help your back mussels. Then I had this bad pain in my back

under my shoulder blade..Tx Dr. said it is not from the lung it's

mussel spasm cause I don't use those mussels much as I used to. Joyce

suggested a heating pad and WALLLLLAAAA all gone till next trip to

the sink. I really think the key is to stretch and exercise our arms

and back along with our legs.

I've been meaning to ask about this but keep forgetting.

I just finished doing dishes and I've noticed when I'm in the kitchen

for a while or vacuuming, my back really aches between my shoulder

blades. Not your typical ache but this tense muscle feeling like

your almost going to get a cramp or something. Anyone else do this?

Is this because of the lungs? It doesn't incapacitate me, just makes

me quit what I'm doing.

Peggy, I will save you a piece of pie since your 1/2 inch shorter than me and a few pounds lighter. Exercising with cans? Doesn't appeal to me at all. Lifting is what gets to me. Stretching is good though and it feels good.

, I will be going to California in a couple of months to my best friends. While down there I am going to have my very first massage.

, I love what you are going to do! That really sounds so special and will be for your family and friends.

I laid awake last night thinking about what I should do. First, if I become incapacitated, I do not want my husband taking care of my needs. I want him to share only good things with me at the last part of my life.

I don't want a funeral either. Not spending our hard earned money on that. You can be buried on your own land in lots of states. We live on the river on 2-1/2 acres and I want to be buried here, on our property. The house sits clear at the back and all the land is in front. It's flat, landscaped and a small orchard that my husband put it. It looks like a park as we also have 17 old walnut trees scattered here and there. I have a fenced in area by my little greenhouse that I call the "Secret Garden". It has six foot primitive picket fence around it, inside is borders of roses and hedge. The center square is herbs. That's the spot I want to be in. This place will be our sons some day and then our grandson's as with rising prices, we figure they will never be able to afford anything with land.

I am also going to put my fathers and my brothers urns in there. I have them and they need to be dealt with. I cannot decide if I want cremation or not.

I was told by my chiropractor that the pains in my back and shoulders

are due to the NSIP.

He said that due to the lung damage I need other muscles to help with

breathing and those back and shoulder

muscles are aiding in the process of breathing. That's why doing light

weight work during exercising is important.

The upper body needs to be stronger to help out. He showed me stretches

to help with those areas too.

The respiratory therapist at rehab said the same thing.

So when I can I do light weight work along with the "dreadmill"

I swear its my lungs too, but I too had some pain before I got sick. Once I was told its stress, and had some theraphy for it, didn't help. Then after I had my open lung biopsy, things really kicked in. I have so much pain now, everyday that I'm on Vicadin 1000's, the strongest they make and sometimes I have totake 1 1/2 so I understand about the pain. I still think its the lungs, just me though...........

Everyone with the back ache problem (me included) we need to talk to our Dr.'s about osteoporosis. Our bones as well as our bodies have been through the prednisone. I was thinking about this today and I know osteoporosis is very painful. it is actually small fractures in the spine. I will be asking my Dr tomorrow.. I was telling a friend today who goes to the same doctor, that I had complained twice to the doctor and really didn't get any response about something to help. There always seems to be so much to talk about. She said you have to make a lot of noise before a doctor will prescribe pain medication. I don't normally make a lot of noise but maybe I should learn how. I don't think I need anything as strong as you are taking and I'm sorry you have to take so much. My husband has some left-over 325 mg Hydrocodene pills from his broken rib. I have been cutting them in half and take half at night. It dulls the ache and I sleep like a baby but I'll be out of them shortly.KaySjogren's IPF/HHT 9-18-07OregonIf there is no bright side, polish up the dark side. Your place sounds beautiful kay..Walnut Trees....oooh yummy we

can't grow those where I live it's too steamy! I got such a lovely

mind picture! Thanks

I don't want my hubby to do the personal care number either. I've

got a friend in the nursing world who'll help me find somewhere to

be looked after if it's a long drawn out affair at that stage. She

great, very understanding & practical. She said it's totally normal

for people who are newly dx to jump to thoughts of the end stage

straight away. She reckons by thinking that through & planning for

it & getting everyone clued up early you can then forget about the

end stage until it's happening & get on with enjoying

the 'honeymoon' period.

Really that's pretty much what I've done...made the bed & now

I'm 'out to play!!!!
