Guest guest
I vote Janet for president!!!!!!! Mission Okay, that's it! We need to petition the powers that be to change the calendar.... Dear Mr. President and other powers that be, We, the members of TOPS, respectfully request that the calendar be changed so that the start of the new year does not fall directly after a holiday and all the temptations associated with said event. We leave the decision of when the new year should begin up to you, but we request that it not begin after Christmas, Valentines' Day, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, or Thanksgiving. And due to the celebratory nature of events such as the Super Bowl, we ask that you consider major sporting events as well. If this is not a possibility, we ask that laws be passed prohibiting the display of "seasonal temptations" throughout our nation's grocery stores, and not to mention the advertising/ brainwashing surrounding the afore mentioned times. We are inundated with suggestive displays and advertising throughout the Christmas season. We wake up the day after Christmas to find the cookies, candies, and cakes that we've tried to avoid are now on clearance to make room for the chips, dips, and soda displays for New Year's celebrations and the Super Bowl. Already the Valentine Candy is making its way to our store shelves. And before Valentines' Day arrives, we'll be able to buy chocolate bunnies, Cadbury eggs, peeps and other unmentionables for Easter. Really, what Easter candy that is bought in February is not consumed well before Easter. We barely survive the picnic and BBQ season before the Halloween candy is stocked on store shelves, quickly followed by Thanksgiving pies, etc. What has our nation come to??? We are a people obsessed with food. Every celebration involves food... from holidays, to birthdays, to ..... heck!! ... we've even managed to turn the death of friends and loved ones into eating events after the funeral. Well, we won't stand for it anymore! We refuse to "buy into" the brainwashing anymore. Our celebrations are not about food! Food is fuel for our bodies...nothing more! From now on we will think long and hard about each holiday and remember what it is that we are celebrating.... Christmas is not about remembering the birth of cookies and pies.... and how did chocolate bunnies ever become associated with Easter. Memorial Day is for honoring those who are no longer with us.... not by having a big ol' picnic, but by spending time reminiscing with family and reflecting on the sacrifices of others...... And we WILL find a way to welcome in the New Year without focusing on food! Sincerely, Janet... a TOPS member, deep in the heart of Texas, who is choosing to change!
