Guest guest
Drink lots and lots of water the night before and right before. Makes the blood draw easier. Louise > Remember, Irene. Guest guest
Wow! I didn't know that. Does it make the vein easier to find or just make it easier to get the blood out once the vein is found? My veins are very difficult to find. Guest guest
Thanks, I'm a difficult stick too. Once, even the doc couldn't find my vein ....even in the hand! They had to call the hospital lab and have someone sent up. Drinking lots of water assures that youare well hydrated and there is enough volume of bloodgoing around through your veins to make them easier tofind and easier to get blood out of them. I'm listedon my chart as a "difficult stick" and they usuallywind up using a butterfly and going into the back ofmy hand. OUCH!! There used to be a nurse there thatcould hit me every time, but she retired several yearsago and none since then have been able to get me likeshe did. Guest guest
Here is a question.................... Do you think that thyroid disease is at the base of being a "difficult stick"? Years and years ago, I was donating blood and they had no problems finally my veins....But as my thyroid disease has progressed, I ,too have become a "difficult stick".And I should be sufficiently hydrated when the bloodwork is done, but oh my poor hands.....And when I was in the hospital, they had lots of trouble with my ivs being placed(and staying!) Guest guest
I think a combination of both. One of our tv stations has a health fair every year with a low cost blood test and while you are waiting in line for it they give you a bottle of water to drink. When I went in for my last blood test the woman stuck the needle in my arm than said did you drink any water? Than the blood started flowing and she breathed a sigh of relief. Louise > Wow! Guest guest
Well, as usual, here lately, I'm a few days late, but my answer to this one would be that adrenal issues might be at the bottom of this, or at least blood volume. Low sodium might be an issue with this, as you would not be holding any water in the tissues on acct of it. So, yes, indirectly, thyroid might be part of it, if a person is in adrenal fatigue. My mail is so out of order, and nothing is arranged by date. Re: Re: Finally...Labs Tomorrow! Here is a question....................
