Guest guest
I haven't written for a long time but I have a question. I'm on a moderately low carb diet..but I don't eat much fruit at all. I have high blood pressure and I used to eat a banana each day and drink orange juice to keep my potassium level normal. Well, I can't eat these fruits anymore so does anyone know of a substitute or source of potassium other than taking pills. I take so many pills that I don't want to take anymore. Thanks, PatsyK
Guest guest
Just off the top of my head, spinach is very lowcarb and pretty high potassium. Also, a half kiwi is very high in potassium and not nearly as carby as bananas. Patsy, I have high blood pressure, and I can't drink orange juice either, so I've been drinking low salt V8... more potassium than orange juice. I jokingly tell my hubby I'm going to drink my glass of potassium.... it's only 9 grams of carbs too. Sandy

Guest guest
What medication are you on for your high blood pressure that causes you to lose potassium? Theer are some that are potassium-sparing. Maybe you should discuss this with your Doctor. Marilyn lynch@... Theer are some that are potassium-sparing. Maybe you should discuss this with your Doctor. I take medication for my blood pressure that causes me to lose potassium also.. one of them is hypochlorothiazide, and the other is Hyzaar, which contains a small amount of hypochlorothiazide. I take the Hyzaar because it has some protection for the kidneys, and I have early kidney problems. Without the hypochlorothizide, I have so much swelling that I'm very glad to have it available. My doctor has tried so many different types of blood pressure medication on me, and this seems to be the best combination. I haven't had any problems with potassium loss since I started drinking the V8.... I like it, so it's a simple thing to do. Sandy
