I order all my shower filters, air purifiers etc. from the American

Environmental Health Foundation in Dallas. Their web site is

www.aehf.com. They are associated with Dr Rea at the Environmental

Health Center in Dallas. This association and clinic is probably one

of the best places in terms of quality and standards for these types

of products.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by " good quality " . The one I use I originally bought

from Self Care catalog, although they don't have it any more (they have a

different model now which is probably as

good or better). Mine is from www.cuzn.com and is called Turbo Shower. I

haven't actually had the water tested before and after the filter, but I can

tell you that with the filter, I cough less

in the shower, and my skin and hair are not as dried out by the shower.

We have a whole house filter, but before I got married I had a CuZn (which may

not be ideal for everyone since it uses copper and zinc. I also had one like

the first one pictured on the following website.

http://www.custompure.com/doc/showerfilter.htm

I bought one at a HFS and the other through either www.gaiam.com or

www.realgoods.com

<tt>

What shower filter is the best?  What is everyone here using?   Thanks.<BR>

Hi Deb,

I would suggest that you enquire by phoning your City Hall if they

use chlorine or chloramine to decontaminate city water. If they use

chloramine, a filter designed to remove chlorine will not remove

chloramine (and vice versa). If your city uses chloramine, you will

need a special filter designed for that specifically; otherwise,

buying a filter designed for chlorine will be money thrown away.

I know of two companies who have systems for chloramine:

(1) Aquasmart: http://www.aquasmart.com/

http://www.aquasmart.com/pdfs/water%20problems%20 & %20solutions.pdf

This is a grid showing what filters to use for what problems (e.g.:

chloramine = KDF 85 & carbon (Aquasmart no. 1112)

--------------------

(2) Go Beyond Organic: http://www.gobeyondorganic.com/

Their section on water:

http://www.gobeyondorganic.com/water/index.html

On that page we can read: " Winston's Sweet Water™ Purification

Systems remove toxic fluoride, arsenic, mercury, lead, heavy metals,

chlorine, chloramines and other pollutants out of the water without

also removing all the minerals that make water wholesome and healthy. "

For info about chloramine:

http://www.alive.com/3098a6a2.php

(This is the article I first read, which sent me on my quest to find

out whether Ottawa uses chloramine or not (it does), and my quest to

find the right water filter.)

http://dld123.com/q & a/index.php?cid=47

Debra Lynn Dadd writes: " I don't know of a shower filter that

filters chloramine. "

She also writes further down that page: " There is a new type of

carbon that does remove chloramine called Centaur® carbon. It has

unique properties that enhance the ability of the carbon to adsorb

certain specific chemicals. It is widely used to remove chloramines.

When I first moved here to Florida, I was able to get a whole house

filter with Centaur® carbon from all the local water dealers. "

- I would definitely contact Aquasmart and Go Beyond Organic (and any

other company you know of), and ask them if they have a shower filter

for chloramine. You could also do a search on the Internet.

http://dld123.com/q & a/index.php?cid=31 :

" (...) A water filter that removes chlorine, however, will not remove

chloramines, and vice versa. So the first thing to find out is: (1)

do you have chlorine or chloramines in your tap water; and (2) does

the filter under consideration remove chlorine or chloramines?

Choose a filter that removes the type of chlorine that is in your

water. "

Information for people in Canada who are on a disability pension,

social assistance, low income owners, etc.:

The Canadian Morgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Residential

Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) provides forgiveable loans

for low income owners, people on disability pension, social

assistance, etc. I asked my housing co-op to apply, in order to get a

water filtration system, and we were successful. I now have (since

December 21 2005, and at no cost to me) a double system from

Aquasmart: one central, point-of-entry system which removes

chloramine and many other contaminants; plus one reverse osmosis

kitchen counter filtration system for drinking water, which removes

further contaminants. I am very happy with this double system.

To find out more about the RRAP program and to find the co-ordinates

of your local RRAP administrator, do a search on CMHC's website

(www.cmhc.ca) using " RRAP " as a key word.

Hope this helps.

I was reading that several peope restored their hair by

getting a shower filter..ive been meaning to get

one for a long time but so far the only one ive found

is on the radiant life catalog webpage.

The one that they have only clears out the chlorine (at

least as advertized ) and i am interested in a filter

that might reduce all harmful chemicals that my skin,

lungs, and hair might be exposed to. Also for

my daughter who is 2 and loves to take

baths and showers.

thanks
