Guest guest
Terri: I really appreciated your comments on female mutilation. I have had the same thought many times while working my way through this process – here I am in a country which has granted political asylum on the grounds that returning a woman to her homeland might mean she would be forced into “female circumcision.” At the same time our culture just accepts hysterectomy and female castration as routine and normal practices. What a crock – what a double standard!!! It is also interesting that when my brother had a bunch of non-malignant growths on one of his testicles, no one EVEN SUGGESTED that he could just have the whole testicle removed – (let alone both of them, so you know, they wouldn’t give him trouble in the future – and certainly there was no talk of just removing the whole works!! ) Nope, the only treatments even suggested were watch-and-wait or removal of ONLY the growths. To me, this seems like sexual discrimination plain and simple. For : Life really has it’s ups and downs. Sometimes I think we have to hit bottom in order to start rebounding As for M.D. visits, have you thought about taking a friend along – someone you feel free confiding in before & after the visits – someone you are comfortable having around while you are in the stirrups - someone who can help you remember exactly what goes on there – someone who can help you communicate your feelings to the M.D. – help you remember whatever you forget in the heat of the moment, etc.??? I know women for whom this is a very helpful way of dealing with those situations. What I have learned when I've hit bottom is to just put my head down and keep butting my way through whatever walls I run into. I have a sign in my office which says, “THAT WHICH DOES NOT SUCK THE LIFE FORCE OUT OF ME MAKES ME STRONGER.” Keep posting so that we know how you are doing, feel free to have some good cries, treat yourself to something special, and remember that there are a bunch of women on this list who understand where you’re coming from and are happy to “listen.” Pat _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
