Guest guest
Hi Joyce, As a new member I am really lost when it comes to the abbreviations that are used by everyone. It may take me a bit to "catch on". What do you mean when you say you are short of breath on 8L? You are having another PFT soon, I would guess means pulmonary fibrosis test? For someone like me, who has just been diagnosed, there is so much I don't know. Why do you dread the test? Is the Apria that you all are talking about, an insurance company or medical supplier? I don't have a pulmonary doctor and don't know if I should or not. Also, how does everyone get their info such as: /Sjogren's IPD, etc., to automatically be printed beneath their name? I see there is another here besides me. Thanks.

Guest guest
, You are in the right place to learn. Doctors, books and sites can not begin to tell you the reality of this monster. The people on this site are so knowledgeable I think the big plus is that we all live it and can support one another. You are so very welcome here and we will all help with our experiences. Just ask any questions and you will get an answer. I am over three years from Dx and am pretty sure I have had this since the middle '90's. But who knows. I think I am glad I didn't know. I'm blabbing. God Bless. Love and Prayers, Peggy ipf 6/04 Florida " Worry looks around, Sorry looks back, Faith looks up. " I don't have a handle on anything....but always trying to learn. As to my profile, guess I never put it and need to do so. I'm 57, in Texas and just diagnosed starting really in August. I'm having a VATS on Wednesday to confirm and specify the diagnosis. > > > > Hi Joyce, > > > > As a new member I am really lost when it comes to the abbreviations > that are used by everyone. Guest guest
Oh, I don't know that I even want to talk to someone rubbing it in about the nice weather and sitting out on their porch in Florida. I moved here in 97 from South Florida (otherwise known as Paradise). We seldom have nice weather here and the air quality is so poor sitting out isn't an option often either. I already have learned a lot between here and just online research. Doctors will diagnose and tell you medically what you've got and should do but this is the place to learn how to live. As to not knowing, there's a part of me wishes I hadn't been diagnosed and just lived on as I was in ignorance. However, I'm realized that knowledge is important to me and I can still live on as if I was ignorant, within reason. > > > > > > Hi Joyce, > > > > > > As a new member I am really lost when it comes to the > abbreviations > > that are used by everyone. Guest guest
from Sher...I read you are in Texas...I lived in Longview for a few years and my nose would grow to 3 feet if I said I liked it. I hated Texas. Being a native Oregonian I couldn't tolerate the color tan anymore. Streams and lakes and creeks were mostly tan colored and the ground as well. No beautiful trees. At least not around Longview. I've seen pictures of Peggy's porch. She torments the rest of us with her "heavenly place-of-recline" lol. Guest guest
from Sher...compared to how far others are Riddle doesn't seem too far. We used to live in Medford, Central Point and up and down the coast, which I dearly love.. How old are you, kids? Married? I'm married, my kids grown and I have grandkids and two great-grands. I'm sure we can arrange to meet one day...half way or something. Probably not until better weather...as you know I-5 can get icy during the winter months we are soon to see. Guest guest
I must agree that the area around here is ugly aesthetically and the weather sucks. I lived in greenery in NC and TN and then on the beach near Miami. I thought long and hard about whether to stay here sometime ago although I don't like rain and darkness enough to go to Oregon. However, I chose to stay here before any idea of this illness for what has turned out to be fortuitous reasons. We have excellent medical care and that and access to it were important as I aged. Also, I respected and trusted all my doctors and didn't want to change. Now to find out how much outstanding pulmonology and UTSW as a leading edge hospital in the field and transplant center. Also, (I live in Plano to be specific) we have a wealth of services of all types. I have the comfort of knowing that as I age and lose mobility I'm well covered. Today I can drive to anything within only a couple of miles (170 restaurants within 2 miles). If I need at some point to stop driving I have bus service at my door and if I need door to door ever we have paratransit to provide that. The senior centers (and you only have to be 55) are excellent and one is three blocks from me although I'm not yet involved, at some time that may be important. There are also services to check daily on you if needed, lunches and meals, everything that one might potentially find helpful or required. I see people struggling with oxygen suppliers while here there are so many and on every corner although I haven't fully researched which ones my insurer uses. Home health care is huge here also. So, its ugly, the weather sucks, and if you have to commute distances the traffic is horrible, but weighing all issues I stayed here and am glad I did. Incidentally, Florida would have been my choice if I had moved. > > from Sher...I read you are in Texas...I lived in Longview for a few years and my nose would grow to 3 feet if I said I liked it.
