Guest guest
Shammon has an excellent site. She has some great interviews with doctors that people have consistently found to be the best in the country and whose patients write to praise. These interviews are very educational. Her book is also excellent and goes into many aspects of hypothyroidism and what new research has shown and what has helped people and what the tests all mean. I have found so much good information there in the past and keep going to her site for things. She has a great letter from a patient to her doctor on treating with Armour and so many other good articles and medical updates. She has a top doctor list with names of doctors all over the country that people have had good experiences with. I just think it is the best thyroid information site out there. If I'd listened to my doctors over the years, I'd be dead by now. Tish

Guest guest
I've not read much of her stuff.. just some on her site... But I will say that after all the years that I was mistreated by docs... I'm now self treating and have been since I got on naturals in 2002. I treat based on my common sense, understanding of symptoms and thyroid chemistry. All the vast improvements have been due to the correct medication, proper application of it and the supplements that I take in conjunction with it and "luck"?? I can't suggest to anyone that they should self treat rather than see a doc, that would be wrong.. but I will say with absolutely no hesitation whatsoever.... If you are without insurance, without money and unable to see a doc for labs or prescription and/or to buy meds... don't sit there and wait to die. Get up the courage to order the meds and learn how to use them. I sat for three years, waiting to die. Unable to get medical assistance in any of the three counties I lived in, or the state or through United Way. I was left for dead, no one caring. If I had not got on line and learned, then found a place to order, then started treating myself.. I have no doubt at all that I'd be dead right now. I applaud anyone that takes that extra step to learn everything that they can and apply it to their own situation, to me that is a sign of a superior intelligence.. and I don't mean that to pat myself on the back.. I say that by way of encouragement to everyone that is reading this, never stop, never settle, learn as much as you can each and every day and then apply what you have learned to make your own life to be a LIFE Topper () *who's soap box is getting a real workout today* On Fri, 27 Aug 2004 17:06:13 -0000 "Sue" writes: Hello allBoth here and on the Internet I have seen several references to Shomon. Guest guest
Shomon is one of the true thyroid advocates. And of course the establishment hates her. Before you buy her books you can check out about.com/thyroid (I think thats the address.) Louise PS And sometimes you NEED to not listen to Drs. Esp those who only go by your TSH. Or those who will ONLY prescribe $inthroid. Phooey. We are not numbers. Treat us by how we feel and let us try something besides $inthroid. > Hello all > > Both here and on the Internet I have seen several references to > Shomon. Guest guest
Hello Sue I've been self treating for almost a year now because of the suffering I've been through at the hands of doctors in my area who know little or nothing about thyroid disease. I WILL say that I DO know more than the last 4 doctors I had, about THIS disease, and I stand by that whole heartedly. I may not know much about heart surgery, brain scans, or even thyroid scans, and that sort of thing, but my disease I have been FORCED into investigating and knowing. I am doing the exact opposite of what 4 doctors advised and would not do, and I'm now part of the living, not the walking (or should I say crawling) dead. It's aLIVE, It's aLIVE!!!! Yes, after yrs of these nightmarish experiences with this disease, I DO question MOST doctors on the sbjct, except for a small handful. After yrs of being on synthetic T4 meds, $ynthroid and Levoxyl both, I made the switch to Armour Thyroid, and I will NEVER regret it one little bit. Of course, I can't do my own scan or surgery, but you get the picture on the treatment program---it's my own, and I'm doing much better. Shomon???? > Hello all > > Both here and on the Internet I have seen several references to > Shomon. Guest guest
Thanks ... I am glad you are doing so well! Perhaps too it partially makes a difference where we live -- those of us in cities known for advance medical studies and care might have different experiences than those who don't. I am NOT negating the experiences of those who have experiences such as yours. I am just saying that it is VERY dangerous in ANY case to advise people to go against the advice of their personal physicians... especially over the Internet to people we don't know. We have no idea what their other physical OR yes, mental, needs are. But I don't mean to stir things up... if that is the " general consensus " of this forum -- to ignore our doctors and treat ourselves -- perhaps I am just in the wrong forum, as I certainly don't mean/want to stir things up. Guest guest
Sue.. I think our reason for being here is to share our research and experiences to increase our individual knowledge. You need to be aware of symptoms, options and availabilities to be able to make any decisions about anything. I would say a majority of the folks here are seeing docs, some good, some bad... my own choice for self medicating was based on financial issues. With no insurance, etc... it was take care of my self or just wait to die.... You are more than welcome here... we all have information and points of view to share. You are fortunate that your experiences have been positive.. Topper () On Sat, 28 Aug 2004 17:01:56 -0000 "Sue" writes: Thanks ... I am glad you are doing so well! Guest guest
Plantar Fasciitis is related to thyroid disorders? Interesting... I have had that for quite some time. Guest guest
Oh and I agree, Topper! I have learned TONS here already and greatly appreciate this forum. And I understand about the financial issues, for sure! One thing I am SO thankful for -- I worked for a non-profit and went 4 years with NO insurance. Two years ago I left and got a great job with incredibly good health insurance... whew!!! Thanks, Lord!! So when I needed it, it was there, and even short term and long term disability. I was VERY fortunate that it didn't happen when I had no insurance!! And of COURSE you have to do what you have to do in those situations!!! It is sad that those who genuinely need health care can't get it. <sigh> Sue > Sue.. I think our reason for being here is to share our research and > experiences to increase our individual knowledge. Guest guest
It's a common injury for athletes and heavy folks, almost always preceded by a prominent 'snap' as the tendon damage occurs. But it is also a warning flag symptom for low thyroid function/ low hormone, easily differentiated by the lack of the 'snap' at time of injury. It's the same thing with carpal tunnel. It's definitely a repetitive stress injury.. but it's the same over exertion symptom of someone that is hypo and not recovering/healing from normal use. An athletic injury is lifelong... hypo induced is recoverable. Topper () On Sat, 28 Aug 2004 22:34:51 -0000 "Sue" writes: Plantar Fasciitis is related to thyroid disorders? Interesting... Guest guest
Well I am definitely in the " heavy " category... am really hoping that now that my thyroid stuff is being handled I can lose. I was losing really well and all of a sudden just could NOT lose any more! Of course this month while I have been off work I have gotten a bad case of munchies. <G> It will help when I go back to work on Monday and am too BUSY to eat. <G> Sue > It's a common injury for athletes and heavy folks, almost always preceded > by a prominent 'snap' as the tendon damage occurs.
