Guest guest
Well, I'd rather mallwalk then neighborhood walk when it's rainy, windy and 35 degrees outside..but I think it's pretty boring...I like some grades when I'm walking and of course, the malls are perfectly flat (although there are some steps to the different levels). . There are some small hills in my neighborhood, and when I go to the gym I use the treadmill and put it on grade. I never shop at the mall, nothing tempts me...I don't even stop for a coffee at Starbucks afterwards. $2.50 for a small latte? No way! I'll go home and make one myself. The only thing that makes it doable is a good book on tape, which I always listen to when I'm exercising, no matter where. Vicki << I love to walk in the mall. It is safe and the weather is always nice. I ususally might buy like a $2.00 item just for fun, but don't shop when I am walking. We have alot of people here who do it and it is really great. >>

Guest guest
Walking causes me a lot of back pain, unless i use a shopping cart, and my physical therapist said that was bad for me, why i'm not sure since that's the way that i can walk and not be in pain. I like to swim, and aqua exercise is great, and rather low impact. lol today i went swimming, (i've not in several months due to getting out the the routine) and i brought 2 12 yr old girls with me. They decided that i was going to play shark and minnow's with them, and i was the shark and had to catch and capture them, and bring them to the other side.... So here i was in 10 feet of water wrestling with 2 12 yr old girls after catching them..... it felt great, was fun etc,.... but now oh boy, i'm sooooooo stiff.... I just took some antinflammatorys and muscle relaxants.

Guest guest
Hi , " Shark and Minnow " sounded fun... Bob (hubby) can walk a bit using a shopping cart, also. One dr explained that when you bend or lean over the cart, you are not distributing the weight of your upper body correctly. When you lean, you are increasing the pressure on parts of your back, usually the lower, and forcing the spine to operate in an abnormal position. That's why, when you get canes or walkers, they have to be the proper height for you. Guest guest
I walk so early - around 7:15 a.m. -- that none of the shops are open. There's an ice rink in the mall and the really excellent young skaters are usually having private lessons or practice at that time. And one thing I've learned is to stay out of bookstores -- too full of temptations. I have limited storage space at home and I've also learned that if I buy a book I rarely read it because I have all those library books to finish first -- and they won't wait but the ones I buy will, smile. Vicki << Vicki, The bookstore tempts me :-) We walk first, then browse in some of the stores when we have time. Makes it more enjoyable for me. Guest guest
Hi, Tootie...well, yes...if I gave up my stash room (one-yard pieces of fabric stacked ceiling to floor on one whole wall of my second bedroom)..I'd have more room for books...but I probably still wouldn't read 'em because I had all those library books to finish first, smile. Also, it's hard to make quilts out of books <g> Re " idle hands are the devil's workshop " ...yes, I remember that one but I doubt that it was my mother or grandmother who said it. But I do like to have something to show for the passing of time...if I'm going to sit still I'd just as soon be working on a quilt simultaneously. Actually, the only time I do sit still is when I'm quilting! (I don't watch television) ...oh, and being at the computer. Well, it'd be pretty hard to quilt and do computer at the same time..Vicki << Oh Vicki, Come on and tell the truth. You know you don't have room for any more books 'cause you have too much material " stashed " . My problem is all of the yarn. You'd think you were in Wal-Mart if you walked into my computer/craft room. Oh well, I keep my hands busy. My grandmother always told me " idle hands are the devil's work shop " . Actually doing my crafts is very therapeutic. I don't have time to sit and think about things that I have no control over PLUS I'm making things that give enjoyment to other people. >>
