Guest guest
Hi Teena Marie, I'm not sure about the link between weight and fibroids. I'm actually within my weight range and have managed to get fibroids. So I'm not sure... --

Prior to the fibroids, I was tiny. In fact, one of the early signs I overlooked was the day I remarked to a friend that I've NEVER gained weight in my abdomen, yet there I was with a pooch! I've yet to find what works for me. The UFE in November made no change, and my uterus is bigger, with yet another fibroid on the latest ultrasound. I've tried cutting out various foods, but nothing seems to make a difference. Exercise is painful, because of the size and position of my fibroids and their enlarged uterus. Guest guest
Same goes for me. I've always been the right weight, I could wear a bikini up until the age of 37. At 38 I grew a stomach, at 39 I found out I had fibroids. It's very definately my fibroid that is responsible for my stomach. I look 3 months pregnant and there's NOTHING!!!! I can do to take this away....except maybe a myomectomy and/or hysterectomy (I'm 9 months into my UAE and I still have a stomach, even w/ 60% volume reduction in my fibroid). I even went on a diet and lost 10 additional pounds, I went down a size, but I still have a 3 month pregnant stomach. I STILL HAVE A STOMACH!!!!!! I'm going to wait another year till I decide if I should get a myomectomy or hysterectomy to get rid of my stomach. Please understand I play outdoors doubles volleyball and I'm nearly the only person that has to keep a shirt on. I HATE HAVING A STOMACH!!!!! I look mostly fine in close, but if I wear anything tight, you can see my stomach. Re: Overweight? Back in Aug I started to gain some weight and coincidently my periods got longer and heavier. Guest guest
Hi- the overweight-fibroid connection does not apply to me. I am 5' 7 " tall and weigh in at 120 soaking wet. I have always been thin (come from thin people). I currently have a 16 week size uterus and you wouldn't know it. My stomach usually is concave and with this uterus it's not concave anymore, but still rather small. I have MULTIPLE fibroids, eat well and exercise regularly. I come from a family of fibroid females. SOOOOOOOOOOO.....can't say that the overweight theory works for me. Good luck

Guest guest
My mother was overweight and was diagnosed with fibroids when she was in her fifties, but she was close enough to menopause that she never needed treatment. I am built just like her--though I'm doing Weight Watchers and have lost 17 pounds so far. I'm 46 and have one very large fibroid. I'll be having a myo in June. My sister, who is almost 44 and has been slender all her life, has not been diagnosed with fibroids so far. I've read about the weight connection to fibroids, too, and I'm inclined to think there is something to it. Dorie Overweight? I'm newly diagnosed with twin fibroids and was so happy to find this group. I have been reading your postings for the last few days and have found them to be very helpful. Because I am so new to this, you may have discussed this in the past but what I am wondering is how many of us gals are overweight? I personally need to lose 30 pounds. Everything I've read so far seems to indicate that there is a relationship between being overweight and developing fibroids. I've noticed that some of you have written about a fibroid diet, however, I'm looking for evidence that losing weight will slow down fibroid growth. I understand that estrogen is stored in body fat and it seems logical that if you rid your body of excess fat, you would decrease stores of estrogen. Any thoughts on this? ---------------------------------
Guest guest
I'd be raising a royal stink with my insurance company if they wouldn't pay for anything but a hysterectomy! Yours is operating in the dark ages. Have you tried appealing that? Dorie RE: Overweight? > > I'm going to wait another year till I decide if I should get a > > myomectomy or > > hysterectomy to get rid of my stomach. > > That's about where I am. My insurance has said they won't pay for > anything but a hysterectomy, so that's all the more reason to wait. > It's very frustrating. > > > > __________________________________________________ >
