Guest guest
Hi there! I was wondering if I could hear from anyone with experience with fractionated stereotatic radiotherapy. I found out last month that I will be having this done on my left AN. My doctor thinks this is the best way to proceed for my hearing right now, which I'm pretty scared about losing. My left AN is at about 1.5cm and although I don't really notice hearing loss right now, the ringing in my ears drives me crazy sometimes. What do you all think of FSR? What should I expect? Are you ill during treatment? Does anyone have any tips for me in general? I would really appreciate any advice you can give me. I don't know a whole lot about it except what I've received from Sunnybrook hospital, where I'll be. I'm 24 years old and I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. In order to have the treatment I need to move to Toronto for two months. My dad and sister are going to fly up and visit me for a couple of weeks, but I think I'm still going to feel pretty isolated. And let's be honest here, it's Toronto in the winter time...feel sorry for me yet?=) Thanks so much in advance! MacKenzie Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
, (my 13 year old son) will have FSR for 5 weeks starting next week. They will irradiate 3 tumors. Left and right side AN. Left side is 1.5 cm and right side is less than 1 cm. The third tumor is in the jugular fossa. I don't have any first-hand knowledge yet, but will gladly share what I learn in the next few weeks. It is not supposed to make you sick. We have been told that side effects that could happen during treatment are: blurred vision, ringing in the ears, dry mouth (this may be only for the jugular area -not sure), possible fluid behind the ears. He will be on antibiotics the entire time, but I think that is because he will have the metal screws in the top of his head (since there are 3 tumors) and they want to make sure he doesn't get an infection. I am very glad we will only be driving each day for treatment. It is 77 miles from 's school, where I will pick him up each afternoon so he doesn't have to miss much. I can't imagine having to relocate for 2 months. I guess we don't realize how fortunate we are to live so close to our medical center. Good luck! Rhonda Waller, Texas FSR Hi there!
