Guest guest
Hello, all. I will be having my 6-week follow up labs tomorrow and wanted to know if I am getting the appropriate tests. The Unilab Thyroid Profile II includes: T3 Uptake, T4 (Thyroxine), Free Thyroxine Index, and TSH. I am also getting the antibody tests. Is the T3 Uptake the same as Free T3? I can't wait to get my results. I feel like crap. I felt good about 4 weeks ago. Now I'm just tired all the time, extremely irritable, and my hair is shedding. I think the doc wants to up my meds, I agree with him (after I see the tests). I'm only on .025 Levoxyl. Thank you! Irene
Guest guest
No, it is not the same thing. The Free T3, on some labs, is called Triiodothyronine, Free. Free T4 is Free Thyroxine, or, directly, Free T4. Labs tomorrow...are they the right ones? > Hello, all. Guest guest
Hi Irene.... T3 uptake is not the same as Free T3. But we'll see how it goes this time (gosh... I don't mean it to sound like it's me.... I hope you know what I mean! *blush*) But it might be a wise idea to discuss with him that with this next increase (optimism here that he'll consider your symptoms and increase) that you'd like to add Free T3 to the next round of tests so that you can keep track of your conversion rate. You are on a T4 only synthetic so it's mandatory that you be aware of how well your body is handling conversion. It might not be a bad idea to see how he feels about natural thyroid... or, maybe, wait a bit and see how he does with addressing your symptoms first? You'd have to 'feel him out' to see how open he is to working WITH you... IMHO, of course. This is your first follow up, and this will be your first increase, right? So you still have a ways to go... try to be patient. It gets better. Keep us posted on how it goes... AND how YOU are feeling as you go through these adjustments.... okay?
