Guest guest
Hello all, 1. Is there a web site anyone can recommend that lists which veggies are high in fiber, and which are low in sugars? Can anyone on the list, list them? 2a. I did not know what ketosis was, I looked it up and this is what I think it means, am I right? You use up your store of blood sugar and then your body goes into fat burning mode to fuel your body. 2b. If I am right why do we want to be in Ketsosis? 2c. I think Tom mentioned testing for Ketones, is this a usual recommendation that Dr.'s give diabetics? Should I be getting some sort of testing device for this? 3. One of the carb counting/calorie counting sheets I consult when doing my daily food journal says that there are several " Free foods " that you can eat that will not impact on your calorie intake, i.e. Broth, cucumbers, celery, onions, cranberries and sugar free Jell-O. Are there any more? and do they effect your bs due to carb grams? Update I called Bayer Canada re: Dr. b's book....after being put on hold, transferred too many times to recall and being transferred to the US Bayer extension and back I was finally told that the Canadian Bayer does not sell the book and the US Bayer will not ship to Canada. ho hum, ba humbug. I finally got a call from the diabetic education centre and the specialist. My appointment is not until the end of January. I figure this will give me time to arm myself with knowledge so I can ask good questions. However, my family doctor is retiring the last week of December and my new family doctor does not set up shop until April. So I will not have a dr. for a bit. I am not worried, but it isn't ideal. My readings have come along. Here is my week. (Which is week three since diagnosis). Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sat Waking 6.9(124.2) 7.4(133.2) 8.1(145.1) 7.2(129.6) 6.9(124.2) 6.8(122.4) 2 hours post breakfast 5.2(93.6) 6.2(111.6) 5.9(106.2) 6.2(111.6) 5.7(102.6) 6.6(118.4) 2 hours post lunch 6.3 (113.4) 5.6(100.8) 5.6(100.8) 5.6(100.8) 5.6(100.8) 2 hours post dinner 5.9(106.2) 5.7(102.6) 5.8(104.4) 5.2(93.6) 7.5(135) The high on Wednesday morning can be explained by a momentary lack of control with some Ritz crackers. Ouch, my lips were very sore from the salt. I was not a big salt eater before, but I don't like it anymore. It is funny how 7 Ritz crackers elevated my sugar...at least that is what I think it was. My mornings are still high on average. This is what I am currently doing to try to combat this, 1. I now walk 3 miles (in 50 minutes) post dinner, as well I limit my evening snack to protein only, no carbs, and only 1 ounce. I might add some " free foods " i.e. cuc's or lettuce. As well as my evening walk (daily), I also walk 1.5 mils at lunch(three days a week when I work) or do 20 minutes of tone and stretch (My days off and Wednesday when I work evenings). When the weather is bad I do 50 minutes of aerobics after dinner. I live in Southern Ontario and the weather is usually really cold right now with Lake effect snow, however we are experiencing a strange warm fall, last week we even had a day as high as 70 degrees, so I am taking advantage and walking every night I can. Wow, I hope this isn't too long. Jacky, end of week three
