Guest guest
For those of you who have been around a long time, mine if probably a familiar story. For me, it is new and very scary. I went to the Dr due to a lump under my arm pit. The lymph node is already involved. The ultra sound was done yesterday. It really did not show on the mammogram. There is not an islotated tumor but instead a large area where normal tissue is mixed inwith abnormal tissue. The skin is also thickened. I do not have breast pain. My understanding is that this is almost for sure cancer. Even if it is not, the mass will still have to removed. Obviously, I am pretty distraught. I am hoping to share info withothers like myself who are just going through this or have already gone through it. I am single and I do have health insurance but I do not have disability insureance. I am going to have work as much as possible as I am not willing to lose my house unless I have to. I am 55 but I have always been very strong. Any thoughts, info, would be much appreciated. BTW, I will be going out of town today so I will not get responses for a coulpe of days. Please do not think me rude by ignoring. Guest guest
Thank you, thank you. I was so sure that I would never be the one that had to go through this. Ahh arrogance, what a heady experience! In another week I will know for sure, for now, I am assuming the worst and hoping for the best. Patty -----Original Message-----From: moochie@... Guest guest
Thanks so much. Of coarse, there are many places here in the Houston area. I went to the Rose for my mammogram and they are doing the biopsy. They have been just wonderful also. They went ahead and put me on a payment plan when I had the two tests done. I do have medical insurance but I also have a $2000 deductible. So, I do have to pay fro a lot myself. Patty -----Original Message-----From: tcbangels@... Guest guest
Texas is not for the little guy in any way shape or form. Even workers compensation is a sad state of affairs. If I went down to that little money, I would lose my house.(big sigh!) Guest guest
Are you referring to social security disability? I know that works on points. Teachers do not pay in enough to get enough points for that, but SS did have survivor benefits for my two children 16 and under until they reach 18 or finish high school, which ever is more...georgiamoochie@... wrote: We live in Illinois and I checked to see if I would become disabled if/what I was eligible for and I would get nothing! Guest guest
Even though I worked FULL time from the age of 16 for most of my adult life, except since 1996 I haven't worked except to sell Avon, they said I would get nothing because it goes by a point system and I don't have enough points in the years that would count. I think that really stinks. Guest guest
Patty, are you a state employee? It doesn't take being poor. You just have to prove that you are disabled from working at the present time. The minimum time for being employed by the state to receive disability is 5 years. If you have any other questions about this, please ask. I've just been through it for my husband. Now I have to fill out another form, because we are not getting disability retirement, but survivor benefits....georgiaPatty wrote: I think in order to get the disability from the state, I would have to become very poor indeed and would have lost the house by the time it all goes through. Guest guest
I am not a state employee. I am an independent contractor. As far as disability, I think I have no chance at this time.
