I have to go in for tests called urodynamics. Carla, didn't you mention incontinence at one time? I also will be having a colonopocy and and seeing another doctor for a lump under my arm. Guest guest
Carol, please say it ain't so! Of all the tests I've had, the needles, the shocks, the cutting, any shots etc, the Urodynamics test was by far the craziest, most painful, most embarrassing thing I've gone through. Your colonopocy doesn't sound like a circus either. I had numbness on the left side (leg and arm/hands) and ok some slight problems with bowel and bladder. From my symptoms they suspected an L tumor, the MRI confirmed it was exactly in a place that would cause these problems. They wanted to document my bladder problems (frequent urination, that's it!) The surgery was set up immediately, meanwhile I went for my Urodynamics test. Basically they insert this lovely tube inside you, fill your bladder with fake pee (it's very cold and strange to feel it coming in like that) then a computer monitors how you... release it. Timing, rhythm, flow etc. Kind of funny bc I'm sittin on a plastic potty trying to pee for the puter WITH this thing inserted in me and she's saying "yes your rhythm is not right" etc. They did this 3 times in a row to get a fair result. I will never go for another. It was not needed for any treatment, it was only used to graph what I'd told them. Records. I was suppose to go back after my surgery, I refused. I still make frequent trips to the bathroom but maybe that's just me? The L tumor removal fixed the numb arm and leg thing but left me with the beginning traces of dropfoot and something they call Ulnar Neuropathy (my left hand fingers don't move exactly right and it's something to do with the Ulnar nerve that runs through the arm). These things may not be from the surgery but the timing makes us think they are. Also I began having severe problems with constipation that have stayed with me since then (May 99). They don't really have any answers for this. I know you can get a better idea (and some pictures) of these tests on the net. Maybe it won't be as bad for you. I hope everything goes ok. PS, this may or may not be related to NF or my surgery in 99 but I've had constant kidney infections for about a year now. I'm fine for a few weeks then down for a couple with dizziness/vomiting. They diagnose it each time as the kidney thing. I take Antivert for the dizziness. Anyone have problems with KI's? Ken & Carol wrote: First I want to welcome those who just joined us. Guest guest
Hi Lori...Yep...did the exercises years ago and the antihistimine thing. Just saw GYN...they are the ones who gave the referrals. I have had incontinence for about 8-9 years. The last doctor (5 years ago) said I was "too young" for the fix-it surgery! He could have made things a whole lot easier!! Hugs, Carol Lori Phibbs wrote: Yikes, makes me wonder....... I had frequent UTIs until I started the chemo. Not comfortable. Guest guest
Hi Vicki...I have an appointment with my breast doctor on Monday. I just had a mammagram done in Oct. Guest guest
It was a lumbar spine tumor. Not that big, maybe an inch or so. When they found it they really pushed the surgery vs waiting, told me the area it was in was very sensitive to causing b & b damage that could possibly be permanent. (Otherwise I would have probably put surgery off bc my symptoms weren't THAT bad.) Have you had full spinal scans? I probably made the UroD test sound worse than it was. lol @ butt burps. Hang in there Carol and let us know how it goes! btw thank yall for the advice and Donna Getz for the ideas. I'm glad everything went so smoothly in Cali and you're home.
