I have it on the bulbous part of the end of my nose, along the smile lines (the crescent wrinkles) from either side of my nose down to the corners of my mouth and on the front part of my chin.. where Kirk has his dimple. Its intermittent, not always in all three places at the same time, is itchy and peely.. almost like old sunburn.. sometimes pain ful. Does respond well to body lotion or even butter... to sooth it and stop the flaking.. Is most irritated after washing and rough toweling..... Could I be susceptible, more than 'average' folks, if my thyroid condition is genetic and not disease? (I went hyper due to bad TSH receptors, not antibody issues) This thing on the face bugs me.. I'm not that vain.. and it's not all the time.. but it's something that can be embarrassing if it's peeling a lot and I'm out in public (which is rare) Topper () *who has an itchy peely chin today* On Mon, 26 Jul 2004 11:47:25 -0500 " " writes: , have any of those rashes ever been on your face, on either side of your nose, even though they may be further out on the cheekbones, still to either side of your nose? Guest guest
Sorry, but I noticed you are talking about Lupus rashes. My rash wasn't the typical " butterfly " rash that a lot of people get, nor was it flaky or itchy. But it sure was UGLY! And it was all over. Sometimes it " traveled " , around my body, but for the most part, especially on my face, it was everywhere. When I first got the rash, and my first sign of Lupus, it was all over my legs, and I thought I had hives, except they didn't itch. The next day they were barely there, and as every day when by, my lupus progressed along with rashes and other symptoms. I do remember my doctor always checking my thyroid for a goiter, although I don't remember if she tested. (this was 12 years ago). But for the rashes, they gave me some kind of cortisone cream, which I almost never used, except for my small relapses every year after ward for three more years. I am sure now though that within five years of getting Lupus, that my Hashi's must have started because I flucuated with weight for years, and seemed to go up and down with my symptoms, which I didn't know where symptoms at the time. Sucks how you can think it is just part of life, getting older, and stresses of your daily life, when it is really symptoms of something wrong with your body. I thought I was more in tune with my body after having Lupus, and was real careful about what I did, and letting stress get to me, etc. But didn't notice something was really wrong until it got really bad, which of course then I had a crappy doctor, and said I was " normal " .... I just love that word sometimes...because it just doesn't apply to anything. Anyhow, I guess I ranted..LOL, Sorry! > ... talk to me about the face rash... Guest guest
Feisty, Sorry it took so long to get back, I have been ultra busy lately and no time for computers! LOL As far as I know..(lol), I only have Lupus and Hashi's. I was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 17 in december of 1991. In october, I had gotten a rash on my legs one day, but I thought it was from the heat from laying out on the beach for too long. (like spotted burn almost). It went away within a few hours. A month later at Thanksgiving, I started to come down with a cold, the next day a fever, and it never really went away. A week later I still had a slight fever, but I still had to work and all, and that monday night I was at work, thank god it was dead ( i was a hostess in a restaurant) I just felt real light headed and I pushed up the sleeves of my sweater up my arm, and noticed a rash. I showed my boss and he sent me home. I went to change into pj's, and then I saw the rash all over my legs and arms, and freaked out! I was totally hysterical, and my mom had me take an oatmeal bath. It really looked like hives. But it never itched, the next I went to school, and as the day started, it felt like I had twisted my ankle, and it hurt, and then as the day went on it went to my elbow, and then by the time of the dr's appt, at around 7:00 p.m. it was in my wrist too. That was the major start of everything, in that first week of december. It wasn't until January that I was diagnosed with Lupus. And that was pure luck. Every day since that first dr visit I was in the urgent care, with something else bothering me, and every day they took blood tests, and said I had something else wrong with me, which I never beleived. Every day they prescribed new meds, which I just never took because What was the point if it was a different thing every day, right? (stupid dr.s)...anyhow, I happend to have the same urgent care dr, a week later after the first time I saw her, and she became concerned, and said, I want to do some other tests on you, and see if you have lupus, because you are showing signs. Had I not seen that same dr again, who knows what the heck would have happened. Anyhow, she tested me 3 times, and said I have Lupus, and then I went to my internal med dr, which I loved and was the best dr ever! They had me on some meds, and she checked my thyroid often, but it never showed anything at the time. Anyhow, I realize this is long and I'm sorry. but it was a crappy ordeal, kind of like finding out about my goiter and hashi's, but I swear you have to get lucky with the right doctor or you are screwed. > Thanks, ! > This was very informational, and appreciated! > How long did it take you to get diagnosed with lupus?Do you have other > auto-immune diseases(other than Hashi, oto's) > Hugs > ThyroFeisty(Feisty) > Proud group co-ownewr >

Guest guest
I may have already answered this (double copies of EVERY piece of mail most of the time), but there is also pseborrheaic dermatitis (don't know if I'm spelling that right because I'm not looking at the word), which is closely akin to some of the other dermatic autoimmune diseases. It can also appear on the scalp and around the ears and on the arms, sort of like psoriasis, except it doesn't have the shiny silvery appearance like that one. Both of my daughters who have Hashimoto's Disease, yrs before either one of them was diagnosed, both had these two skin conditions. One had one, one had the other. Funny thing, NEITHER one of them has any more appearance of these two skin diseases since they were on thyroid meds, one from age 20, the other from age 23. Does the sun seem to help heal it, that is, as long as you don't get a sunburn? Re: Rashes and Lupus (another autoimmune disease) ... talk to me about the face rash... I'm not that vain.. and it's not all the time.. but it's something that can be embarrassing if it's peeling a lot and I'm out in public (which is rare) Topper () *who has an itchy peely chin today*
Guest guest
I get a funny rash on and around my ears too.... and between my toes... the skin is dry and flaky kinda and I can scratch off the 'dead' stuff.... It's easier to do right after a shower.. it's not like the normal skin that comes off after a shower.. it's much thicker and concentrated to those areas... Wow.. I thought it was a heat/stress thing.... I dont' get outside much... There isn't any place to go.. I don't drive, can't walk that far.. and as far as spending time on the deck.... it's a noise thing... it's not pleasant out there when you have to deal with the blaring TV in the kitchen through the open doors. So I only do that when no one is home... heheheheh then I drag a computer out there and 'do it' on the deck.. you should see the neighbors stare as they drive by!!! Card table... tower, monitor, keyboard and tv... all set up so that the equipment is in the shade of the tree and the back of my head is in the sun.... Unless it's hot.. then I'm in the shade, too. You know.. that TV in the kitchen is soooo loud that unless I have the office door closed (on the other end of the house) turn on the fan, the computers and my tv.. I can hear every word.... Guest guest
Yes, it is... as my med dosages came up mine stopped flaking... my went so far as 'eyebrow dandruff'.... I could scratch my eyebrows and watch the flakes fall in front of my eyes like snow.... all that is gone now... and I had it so long that I still play with my eyebrows to get the flakes out so that my eyebrows dont' look 'dusty' to people looking at me. Guest guest
If there are red areas on the scalp to accompany that, it could be the seborrheic dermatitis. (There, I think I spelled it right this time finally!) If that's what it is, the suphur based or zinc based shampoos would help it, but it's got to be used regularly, with no othe types of fragrant shampoos inbetween. I think that if that's what it is, yes, it's thyroid related. The one daughter of mine who had this, it has mysteriously disappeared within the yr after she was on a proper dose of thyroid hormone.
