Guest guest
Does anyone have a good Diagnosis Code for Diabetic Ulcer that will cover wound care? We are treating our patient for an ulcer on his ankle and are perfoming wound care and debridement for him. Medicare has denied everything for him. I would appreciate any help that is offered regarding a payable DX code that works with wound care. Thank you Valley Rehabilitation
Guest guest
Dianne, Have you tried using a series of codes to describe? You state the underlying disease process is diabetes, but is the sore relative to pressure, trauma or ischemic changes? Use diabetes with complication codes (i.e. 250.6 diabetes with neurological manifestations, 250.7 DM with peripheral circulatory disorders, 250.8 DM with other specific manifestations). Further explain by using a 707.1 (ulcer of lower limb, except decubitus) code i.e. 707.13 ulcer of ankle or if the sore is due to pressure, a 707.0 code i.e. 707.06 pressure sore ankle. If the wound is the result of a traumatic accident, you may want to use one of the open wound i.e. 891 codes, however use of these codes requires an explanatory E code to describe the precipitating event i.e.E888.1, fall striking against object.
