I think once you get to goal, you just have to give your body time to adjust to that weight, then decide for yourself how easy or how hard it is to maintain - and if you have to fight it 24/7, then maybe your goal is too low.

Hi all...

This comfortable body weight is puzzling to me...I too, am at a weight that my body seems to want to stay at.. Everytime I have ever put on weight and then have to lose it...I start fighting at the same place...And can never seem to go any lower. Does anyone know why this happens? OH...BTW....lost a half pound of the weight that I gained last week...but it was a struggle.

Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: Roll Call /Clara

Hi, Janet - -

The reason I want to be below goal is because the 3# over leeway means "DANGER" to me! You work so hard to get to goal, why let yourself GAIN back into that 3# leeway? I don't know if all KOPS feel the way I do, but I think it is wise to stay at or under goal and not have to live in fear of exceeding the 3#!!! And I had my doctor set my goal at 5 pounds more than what I would really like to be, JUST SO I COULD STAY UNDER GOAL!!!

I think once you get to goal, you just have to give your body time to adjust to that weight, then decide for yourself how easy or how hard it is to maintain - and if you have to fight it 24/7, then maybe your goal is too low.

Maybe some other KOPS will give us their insight and reasoning on this - - -

I have no idea, Tonya, but I can tell you that my body and I strongly disagree on what my comfortable body weight should be! Everytime this subject comes up... plateaus, getting stuck at that same ol' weight... everyone's suggestion is usually the same.... shake things up..... change your exercise routine, exercise at a different time of day, make sure you aren't eating the same foods all the time, at the same time of day, etc., etc. I guess our bodies can get in a rut, too.

CONGRATULATIONS on your half pound loss! You've got that scale moving in the right direction. Keep on making healthy changes, and know that you and your health are worth it!

Tonya, I know that we all have plateaus!! And it is maddening!! I sat at a plateau for years that was 20 pounds over what my goal weight was! I wasn't where I wanted to be, but I could maintain it without a lot of effort, and I was just not in the "MIND SET" to stick to a strict diet long enough to drop that extra 20 pounds! Don't ask me why! But something clicked in January of this year - and I buckled down and lost that 20 pounds by May - - and reached my KOPS status! I may get my hands slapped here, or my mouth washed out with soap - and I may get reprimanded by TOPS - - but I did it with the South Beach Diet. It is by far the easiest diet I have ever found - and believe me, I have tried them all.

I have been reading a book that wrote in 1987 - "ELIZABETH TAKES OFF" - - - Mostly because I have always thought she is THE most beautiful woman in the world - and I knew that she at one time got really over weight - and I was curious about how she took it off. One of her chapters is about "plateaus" - and here is what she says:

"No matter what support systems you set up, they are rarely strong enough to keep you from getting discouraged during those inevitable stretches when you continue to diet rigorously but fail to lose. What could be worse than getting on the scale, possibly for several weeks in a row, and seeing the marker steadfastly cling to a single number? I know, I've been there! Only someone who's been through this kind of ordeal can fully appreciate the gloom of the stalled dieter."

"It will take all your willpower not to say, "I'm not losing anyway, so why should I deprive myself?" Visions of renounced meals will appear in your head until you're ready to march to the table and make up for lost time! But DON'T!! Dig in your heels and try to ease that feeling with nonedible treats. Even if it takes several weeks, you will eventually see results. So don't give in - and don't give up."

The book has really spoken to me - - - I haven't even looked at the "diet" part of it - - - but her story and her battle to lose her weight is really inspiring! She has really had a pretty traumatic life, and it is encouraging to know that she has OVERCOME a lot of obstacles in her life - her weight being just one of them!! And she has a marvelous POSITIVE sense of humor!!

Hang in there, Tonya - - -
