Welcome Sue,

I'm new here too - just joined last week - and I can't believe

everything I've learned since joining. I don't contribute too much at

this point because I'm so busy reading and absorbing all of the

knowledge this group has to offer. I think you'll be gald you came to

this group.

Please don't feel like your story was too long. I think all of us

have very long stories for one reason or another because this is just

not a simple issue. I hope you find some of the answers you're

looking for.

Hi Sue, Welcome....

I had a birthday last week too!!! Happy belated birthday!!!!

Oh my... quite the story.. thanks for sharing...

They've told you that you are hypo but have they given you a reason for it?

There are a few tests that are very important for you to have done. TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and thyroid antibodies (antithyroglobulin and antithyroidperoxidase). It's also a good idea to get your ferritin checked.

It's important to find out what your current levels are and to pin point a reason for the levels being off. From there you can determine the correct dosage.

You're right.. finding folks that understand what you are feeling.. the fears, the hopes, the fatigue, the frustration, is a God Send....

First step.. Your appointment and finding out what your blood levels are and finding out what is causing your hypo state, then determining the best way to correct it and get you back to being the super mom that you were....

You can post your lab results and the lab's ranges here and we'll help you decypher what they mean.

Welcome , Sue! I am Feisty(ThyroFeisty) one of the proud co-owners of the group.I have Hashimoto's and also hemolytic anemia.

The tests you should have at the minimum are: TSH, Free T3 ,Free T4,TPO and Anti-TPO.The TSH is not as relevant as the frees are as to what the thyroid functioning is.The last two measure antibodies in your blood so as to determine if you have auto-immune thyroid diseases. Please remember, that "normal" on blood tests may not be "normal" for you-- especially if still having symptoms.

We have no problems with the length of any post. We are a support group and there are so many here that are compassionate, wise and supportive. We all have been touched by thyroid disease and are seeking to regain ourselves.Feel free to ask questions, to rant, to dance for joy....

We only have a problem with the spammers that come on and pester our "family" here. They soon find themselves outside.....

Sue,

Thanks for the post! No, It was not too long and yes, there are thousands like you! Go to the site (links at the bottom of every message) and read everything in the files sections, especially Thyroid 101. Also explore the links. Then ask away. Just remember you may have to refresh our memory from time to time and please be patient, the board is really really busy these days.

Blessings,

Debbie K.

Happy belated birthday to you too Topper!!

Thank you all for being so sweet and responding to my right away. I

can tell that I will really love this group!

I went to the doctor, and requested a " full panel " of Thyroid blood

tests, I believe it was all of the ones that you mentioned

below...of course I cant remember..but will double check at home

tonight. He also had lipids, cbc, EBV, and a few others checked

off. I plan to go in and go over the results with him once they

come back...that is the first time I have done that. Ususually they

call and leave a message saying " Your labs are all normal " and I

want more information. My new doctor seems really open and willing

to listen to me and work with me on this thyroid problem.

I will write more later.

take care

Beware, their "full panel" very often does not include the frees. During my first "informed" visit, I asked both the doc and nurse, "Are you going to check the frees?" Both said, oh yes, we check everything" But to them "everything" did not include the FT3 & FT4. So I had to wait another six weeks until another lab was due. I'd call them and make sure if I were you. If it's not included maybe they can add it before the blood is gone.

Blessings,

Debbie K.
