I am not sure what " normal fasting " is for a " diabetic " . There are so many factors to take into account and so many different types and stages of diabetes. When I was first diagnosed, I was measuring over 200mg% fasting (HbA1C was 13%, normal range 3.3-6.5%) but now I have my diabetes under control with metformin and exercise, I seldom see a fasting BG outside the range 80-100mg% (HbA1C is 4.5%, normal range 3.3-6.5%). Your 130-145 is what I would expect for an untreated diabetes. For a type 2 diabetic with a fasting BG in the range 126-200 at diagnosis, the ADA recommends: meal planning and regular exercise plus oral diabetes medication or insulin. In my opinion you have some way to go before you get into the range below 110 or so and can rely on healthy eating and exercise habits to keep you in a safe range. The logic as I understand it is that you will get there eventually if you stick to your treatment plan or, if you don't get there then your treatment plan needs revising. > normal non-diabetic is 80 - 120. ? Once again, I am not sure what a " normal non-diabetic " is. I doubt that very many people without diabetes measure their fasting blood glucose concentration under normal conditions. I suppose a certain number have been measured under clinical conditions but that is not quite the same thing. I had regular quarterly medical check-ups for my work before I got diabetes and the fasting BG results were always in the range 82- 88mg/dl but mostly 86. Instinctively, I feel that anybody who has a fasting BG over 100mg/dl regularly is already on the way to a full- blown diabetes and should switch to healthy eating and regular exercise before it is too late. That is the recommendation that was given to me but naturally I didn't take it seriously and have regretted that ever since!
