not far.... as in sustained readings, start cutting back, till you can keep

it under 120 other than for the 2 hrs pp, and the fasting.

Hey peeps!

My doctor told me back in March of 2000 when I was diagnosed with type 4

diabetes that I should keep my blood sugar within the range of 70-120. For a

long time that seemed to work easily for me. I have gone back to eating ice

cream and real sugar sometimes, and now it seems to want to stay around 140

to 150. Does anyone have any idea about how far above 120 we can go before we

start endangering our health?

One way to look at this is to consider the HbA1c viewpoint. HbA1c of 5.0%

relates to an average blood sugar level of about 90 and 6.0% relates to a

120 average. The available studies indicate that the risk of diabetic

complications increases modestly as HbA1c increases from 5.0% to 6.0% and

then increases substantially as the level exceeds 6.0%.

The implication is that while occasional readings over 120 are not

necessarily harmful, an average closer to 100 is certainly desirable if one

is interested in keeping the complication risk down.

I was advised that anything over 150 was doing nerve damage.
