Guest guest
But what is the explanation of that, i.e., on what basis are they saying this? I understand the Type I process, but not autoimmune of Type II. Is it thyroid antibodies or what kind of antibodies for the Type II? Guest guest
This is from her book: It's important to start the discussion of diabetes by differentiating between the 2 types. The autoimmune type is type 1 diabetes - also known as insulin dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes and diabetes mellitus - which is frequently diagnosed in childhhod or young adulthood. The more common type of diabetes, type 2, or non insulin dependent diabetes, is the form that typically develops in adulthood and is almost overwhelmingly associated with obesity. There is some evidence that autoimmunity may contribute to a tendency to develop type 2 diabetes, and it is more common in patients with other autoimmune conditions. Guest guest
As far as I understood, this form of autoimmune insulin resistance is a prelude to type II diabetes. blithe > But does it involve Type II Diabetes, or a prelude to it, or is it the > prelude to Type I (Pancreas, Islets)? > > > > > Re: Breast Cancer-Thyroid Link > > > > Yes, that's what I was wondering. Guest guest
But, as already stated by someone else, it would be the general fact that the cells become resistant to absorbing anything, when they become insulin resistant, and that would be the case with Type II Diabetes. To me, it is rather an association with, rather than being autoimmune itself. Guest guest
The article whose URL I pasted into the original e-mail talked about actual antibodies to insulin causing one specific type of insulin resistance. The insulin resistance, when persistent for long enough, becomes type 2 diabetes. blithe But, as already stated by someone else, it would be the general fact that the cells become resistant to absorbing anything, when they become insulin resistant, and that would be the case with Type II Diabetes. Guest guest
Ok, I guess I somehow missed that link, I don't remember seeing one. Thank you. This very much interests me, as I've not read of this.
