He said that the tea would have only a placebo effect, if that. If he had recommended the tea and then, when I returned after a week and said what a big improvement it had made THEN he could have told me about the placebo effect! But once I knew about it there was no point trying the tea. So I bought the Hypericum 425mg capsules (equivalent of US$15 for 60), take one mornings and one evenings. The capsules are each 425mg dried Johanniskraut leaves in 60% ethanol. The package insert says that if the symptoms are still there after taking the stuff for 4 weeks then go see a physician. The claim is that if I take the capsules regularly at exactly the same time each day then they will improve my " internal calm " , contribute to a " positive attitude " and help me to find my " inner balance " . Nothing about depression as such (that seems to have quite serious symptoms including an inclination to suicide) but says that 10% of the population is affected by a light depressive " upset " once in their lifetime and that is what the capsules are for. There is nothing in the package insert about any effect of hypericum on HIV medication but it does say that it significantly reduces the effectiveness of oral contraceptives! Apart from that, don't go out into the bright sun and avoid exposure to strong ultraviolet lights (suntanning studio, etc.). I just took my first capsule - I will let you know how I feel after 48 hours - get ready for some positive attitude!
