My TSH was well below the normal lab ranges and my thyroid gland was swollen. I went for further blood tests, uptake scan and ultrasound. All of these tests came back within the normal lab ranges. I have a second opinion appt. on MOnday b/c my current doctor speaks VERY broken English which makes it hard for me to understand him. And if your doc is not to fluent and you're not getting complete answers, that can be even more frustrating. Can you post the results of your first and second labs, with the lab ranges, for us to see? A couple of comments... many docs don't understand how to read the labs.. simply to look and the numbers and refer to 'normal range' doesn't mean a whole lot. That is to say.. the 'normal range' my not be normal for you AND if he did not take the correct tests to get a clear picture, the numbers that he did have to make the evaluation may only give part of the picture. To have levels swing from hyper to hypo, or vice versa, can often be a sign of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.. Could that be what he said? If that be the case (it can be verified with tests for the level of antibodies antithyroglobulin and antithyroidperoxidase). What are your symptoms? Do you feel hypo or hyper? As far as lab ranges, I'll echo what others have said: Normal for you may or may not be normal for the lab. The tricky part is finding a doc who understands that and will work to get YOU feeling optimal. Let us know what happens Monday? And to answer your question: Yep. So most doctors were uneducated and undertreated me. So, I ended up with a huge goiter and nodules to which I just had surgery for last thursday. They're swinging back towards the hyper end now, but are still in the normal range. I agree with everyone else - find another doctor! I know it's exhausting and frustrating, but keep going. Your antibody tests should show what's going on. Last time I asked my PCP - she would only recite them over the phone after a lot of phone tag. I'm not sure how I feel. I really felt I had Hyper symptoms b/c my heart races at times and I've suddenly gained 5 lbs. I have found it hard to concentrate and I have a lot of anxiety. It all could be stress though so I don't know. I'm in Tallahassee, FL and this new doctor was recommended. I'm hoping she will be able to clear things up for me. At least I'll be able to understand her. I'll keep you guys posted and hopefully I'll have my lab numbers.
