Guest guest
Jacky, your body is detoxing from the carbs, and, unfortunately, you are bound to feel pretty low for a few days. I always get headaches when I stop doing something addictive. Lately, it's coffee. The good news is after a week or so, you should start to feel better than you have for a long time, if your numbers were high. The body gets used to doing things a certain way, whether good or bad. Another thing to watch as this change over process is your body feeling like your blood sugar is way low. THis can happen with blood sugar around 100 (5.5), because your body is so used to very high numbers. When you feel shaky and weak, be sure to test. If it's a real hypo (below 65 ((3.61)), you need to dose it with glucose tabs, rather than eating sugary food. It's easy to overfeed a hypo. A glucose tab (any market, drug store, etc.) is 4 grams and will raise your blood sugar about 20 points. Every gram of carbohydrate will raise your blood sugar 3-5 points, depending on glycemic value. Think of the headaches as signs of improvement - maybe that will help :-) Barb > Did anyone else experience intense headaches when the started low > carbing? Guest guest
Hi, Jacky...all diabetics should take aspirin as heart disease prophylaxis, age has nothing to do with it. Actually the younger you are the more important it is to take aspirin. Diabetics are at increased risk for heart disease and aspirin is a preventative. Not full strength but 81 mg (I don't know the equivalent Canadian but it's baby aspirin strength). You should ask your doctor about this -- although he should have mentioned it to you. It's standard procedure in the U.S. I converted your postprandial 4.8 to US and it comes to 88, which is excellent. You're doing fine! Vicki << No I am not taking aspirin prophylactic ally, I am only 32 and my other numbers were ok. should I mention this to my dr.? Jacky, who was 4.9, 2 hours after dinner tonight. >>

It's standard procedure in the U.S. My dr mentioned it, however said that it was not important at this time as my blood work, and cardiac stress test were all in good shape. A side note that she did say was that its way more dangerous to take this aspirin on an sporatic basis. This however may be because i'm also on vioxx. Guest guest
Another thing I have found when taking to people is that some people can get bad headaches from nutrasweet and other fake sugar substitutes...sus Re: Headache Jacky, your body is detoxing from the carbs, and, unfortunately, you are bound to feel pretty low for a few days.
