Some questions for you:

Have you had antibodies tested? These would be the TPO and Anti-TPO.Do you have auto-immune disease(or family history?)These would be Hashimoto's, Graves, Rheumatoid Arthritis, MS,Sjogren's, Lupus,and many others.Do you have copies of the bloodwork?Don't take "normal" as a valid answer-----Normal may not be normal for you, especially as you have symptoms!Has your bloodwork included Free T3 and Free T4? These are essential to determine how well the thyroid functioning is.

One last question-----Do you perhaps live in Vegas?Asking because of your yahoo name. I lived in Vegas 25 years until 3 years ago!

I am sure others will jump in to help answer your other questions.

Amy, Welcome!

Did they give you the results of your labs? It would be interesting to see what your blood is showing... Give them a call and request copies.. then post them here, if you like, and we can see what's going on.

We've had a few folks here that have had surgery. I'll let them comment on how it went for them. I had RAI myself after going into thyroid storm....

I am going to print this out and ask my endo doctor when I see him.

Of course that is after the surgery. I called and it has been

authroized by my insurance so it's a go for Tuesday. I see my endo

at the end of this month. I do not have a copy of my tests.

Why is it that they are operating right away, instead of trying a trial of

thyroid hormone? Do you have multiple nodules or what? Ultimately, you're

going to be on thyroid hormone after the surgery, whether they remove a part

of all of it, unless they leave a part and it picks up for the whole thyroid

function. Has no suggestion of medication been made, before having to

resort ot surgery? This doesn't make sense to me, unless you are leaving

something out of your diagnosis. Did they do antibodies testing? Are there

multiple nodules, etc....?

Jamy, have your nodules ever shrunken, and do you have trouble swallowing?

With these two things (more swelling), if I had insurance or if they would

do it. this is one case where mine would be coming out. If the nodules

shrank, that's one thing, but if they are growing, I wouldn't want to keep

mine at all.

When I went to Friedman this last time, he is the first DR since I was first

dxed that even felt them. He said that the opposite side from what the ultra

sound showed is now bigger, but didn't go any further.

With these two things (more swelling), if I had insurance or if they would

do it. this is one case where mine would be coming out. If the nodules

shrank, that's one thing, but if they are growing, I wouldn't want to keep

I do have multiplue nodulars.

I found a copy of my bloodwork up. my antibodies are within the

normal range. But my Thyroblobulin is way high. They normal is 4.-

40. and mine is 307. WHat does that mean?

No medications recommendations were made by my endo. When I went

and saw him on July 1st, he said let's watch it for another 3 months

and then I'm going to referred you to an ENT for surgery. I then

asked why wait. It's growing and starting to cause physical

problems is there a reason to wait? He said no, he thought I wanted

to wait on surgery. I told him let's get the ball rolling now

rather then wait.

I'm only have my right side taken out unless it is cancerous in

which case the whole thing will be taken out.

Is it your Thyroglobulin or your ANTI thyroglobulin that is way up? That IS

the other major antibody to the thyroid, besides the antithyroidperoxidase

or antimicrosomal, as it was/is called.

the bloodworks says I was tested for three things.

TSH within normal range (the lower half of normal)

ANTI-TPO antibody which I am a the top end of normal

then the Thyroblobulin which like I said is way off the charts.

They go up and down. I have just added synthroid to my Armour and I will get hate mail for this, but it is the smallest yet on both sides. You can only shrink something so old and fibrous so far. According to the ultrasound, I was sick for a very long time. Since I am single with no family to support me, I just kept going till I was falling into deep sleeps that no one was able to wake from from several times a day after 14 hours of sleep a night!

They go up and down. I have just added synthroid to my Armour and I will get hate mail for this, but it is the smallest yet on both sides. You can only shrink something so old and fibrous so far. According to the ultrasound, I was sick for a very long time. Since I am single with no family to support me, I just kept going till I was falling into deep sleeps that no one was able to wake from from several times a day after 14 hours of sleep a night!

Jamy, you won't get hate mail from me for adding Synthroid.. you're doing what we encourage everyone to do.. apply the knowledge that you gain to how your body works and responds... that's exactly what you did....

I admit that I do nudge those that are on synthetics alone to try natural, especially when they are having symptoms that do not go away.. or those, like me that no longer have a working gland... But that's based on my having been on synthetics for so long and going down hill more and more as the years went by... I hate seeing folks go through that grief, I REALLY REALLY do!

Yep, and I'm beginning to think that I've got nodules, at this point. I never thought about this until the last couple of months, but have said nothing. Don't know what I'd do, if I knew that I had them, no insurance, don't qualify for any of the so called low income programs because my income isn't low enough to qualify (not indigent) in this county, in this state. Galveston's contract with Brazoria County has changed drastically, and is going to change even more within this yr. I know that I need an ultrasound and/or a scan. Even with my Armour being right (won't retest until at least the end of this month at soonest), I'm thinking that the little autoimmune antibody people have been getting more for supper here over the past yr, and the very structure of my thyroid has changed. I know that driver's license pictures are never pretty, but I looked at my new picture on it here in the last wk, comparing it to my last one, and the neck is sooooo obvious, though I only weigh around 10 lbs more than just 4 yrs ago. The front and sides of my neck are a funny shape in the picture that I'm not noticing that much just when I look at myself in the mirror. We all age, that's natural, but this is so obvious about the neck in the front and on the sides. I'm wondering if it snuck up on me so slowly that I've been too blind to know the difference til now. On and off, it feels like something is in the way when I swallow. Then, magically, for a couple of wks, it's completely gone. It's getting to where I notice it more and more, and it's getting to be a pain. I'd test right now, but even if the results are where I want them to be, I think that it's the antibodies we always have to worry about with this. I haven't retested those since March, but they're just too ungodly high not to be thinking about what they're doing.

They go up and down. I have just added synthroid to my Armour and I will get hate mail for this, but it is the smallest yet on both sides. You can only shrink something so old and fibrous so far. According to the ultrasound, I was sick for a very long time.
