Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I'm new to all of this, I looked at your TSH level 0.234 doesn't that make you a person with hyper rather than hypo? I'm confused? Please explain to me. Thanks, Olivia

Guest guest
Hi all, Saw the doc today and got my labs. Results are below along with a percentage calculation that tells me where I fall in the range. I came up with this to put everything on an even keel, so to speak. With everything have different ranges and most times even the same things have different ranges from test to test, the percentage scale lets me see at a glance where I am. It's not a complicated calculation, but I have it on excel if anyone is interested. Or I can tell you how I did it. Just let me know. Please tell me what you think of the labs. I am posting the May labs if you need them for comparison. I am doing pretty good, but am not where I want to be. Mostly, I still lack energy and the thought of exercising is depressing. Exercise doesn't make me feel better, it only creates a need for a nap. Also, can't seem to stay on track and get things done. I don't understand why the FT3 has gone up, but not the FT4. Any ideas? Doc also did Lipid panel (cholesterol) Hepatic Function Panel (?) and Basic metabolic panel. Everything was fine. Interesting note is that before Armour, I was on Lipitor for cholesterol but have not needed any since starting Armour in Feb. 5/27/2004 Value Range % TSH 0.234 0.49 - 4.67 -6% FT4 0.91 0.71 - 1.85 18% FT3 2.11 1.45 - 3.48 33% 7/20/2004 Value Range % TSH 0.26 0.25 - 4.5 0% FT4 0.92 0.71 - 1.85 18% FT3 4 2.3 - 4.2 89% I am anxious to see what you guys say. Guest guest
Olivia a goal that a lot have is to have the TSH suppressed, as we feel so much better that way. This is also why we rely more on the Free T3 and Free T4 to help us know how well our thyroid functioning is. Guest guest
((((((Debbie))))) Did you take your thyroid hormones the day of the test? Some may need to add T4 also. You are still symptomatic from what you have said. But you are on the right track! The T4 needs time to build up in your system,at least 6-8 weeks to see results from that in particular. That is one reason we urge not to increase hormones any sooner than that 6-8 weeks. Guest guest
opps! Should have stated that they were done on a fast. May labs were when I was on 90mg for 8 wks. Endo wanted me to reduce to 60mg & 90 mg every other day. After 4 wks, I gave up on that idea and went back to 90mg daily. I'll never see him again. He is the one that said T3 isa narcotic and I needed to get off it. Anyway dh saw it was not good and has finally agreed to let me travel to a top doc. I see Dr. Milton in Cumming GA on Aug 16th. July labs were ordered by regular doc. Guest guest
Yes, your T4 is way too low. As I was told, it can typical with folks on Armour, but yours is particularly low, being as the Free T3 is probably somewhere around where you want it. This is one case where I would ask about your former TSH readings, before going on Armour? Could there be an issue here with your pituitary not stimulating the thyroid when it's supposed to? I can't remember all your issues with thyroid, as this board is so busy. Please refresh my memory. On a second note, you may have to add a little T4 to the mix, but I'm still wondering about the pituitary. DK's Labs - Comments appreciated Hi all, Saw the doc today and got my labs. Guest guest
This is almost our whole theme song on these thyroid sites. This is the mistake made by the medical profession as a whole. TSH is NOT the indicator of hyper because it is the pituitary hormone, NOT the thyroid hormones. When the TSH is low, but the thyroid hormones are low also, this is living proof across the board of what we've been talking about here. This is the very thing that has kept so many people chronically ill for yrs on end, and some, all of their lives! The TSH doesn't do what doctors think that it does. In a normal healthy thyroid, yes, it would stimulate the thyroid perfectly, with the feedback system of what is being healthily made by the thyroid, but most people's feedback system simply doesn't work that way, once one or two things in the axis are not working appropriately, particularly where antibodies are involved, and most of the time, that IS the case. Re: DK's Labs - Comments appreciated Hi Debbie, I'm new to all of this, I looked at your TSH level 0.234 doesn't that make you a person with hyper rather than hypo? I'm confused? Please explain to me. Thanks, Olivia

Others may be able to say this better than I have. hugs ThyroFeisty(Feisty)www.thyrophoenix.com
Guest guest
That's interesting. I havent' thought of that. I don't know if I could get the TSH's before Armour. That was two doctors ago. I was thinking about asking for my records, so now I think I will. Sorry, I don't have time to write about all the issues with thyroid right now. Am supposed to be packing for a trip and just sat down here to read only. Then I got hooked. Thanks for the idea though. I'll have to research this next week when I'm back in town and after my lumpectomy. I have found out through the grape vine that Doc Milton wants the T3 around 90% and T4 around 70%. If this is correct, I am sure he will address this. Can't wait to see him in jsut over 2 wks. Guest guest
Right on. My TSH is undetectable ( " <0.0001 " ) but that doesn't make me a hyper person, I am still hypo - just a hypo person on a full replacement dosage. A low TSH without medication means hyper or secondary hypothyroidism (depending on FT3 and FT4 values - high Frees, hyper; low frees, secondary hypo). A low TSH on a medicated hypo person just means the dosage taken is replacing thyroid function completely, and that there is no need for the body to make TSH since the thyroid no longer works anyway.
