Guest guest
Hi Judy, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I too lost my first baby at about 2 months, although it is not positive that my fibroids were the culprit. I have 3 intramural fibroids, ranging from 4-6 cm in size, and they were discovered at the time of my miscarriage. I later went on to have an uneventful and successful pregnancy. The fibroids grew a great deal, but didn't impede the baby's development. So it is possible to have a pregnancy with fibroids, though there is still a risk of miscarriage as well as pre-term labor. Bedrest may be required for pain and/or early contractions. Fortunately, I had no preterm labor and had an unmed vaginal delivery. There was postpartum bleeding of some significance, but it was brought under control very quickly. If your doctor is certain that fibroids may be causing your problems with pregnancy, a myomectomy is usually the surgical procedure used to correct the problem. A c-section will likely be required for delivery due to the increased risk of uterine rupture. Myomectomy has some risks, but is usually what's recommended if fibroids cause problems with conception and/or carrying to term. Could you find out if any doctors in Nairobi do this procedure? Barring that, are there any other hospitals in neighboring countries or even a bit further abroad where you might go? I wish I could do more to help and give information to you.... Please let us know how everything goes! Dee (in USA)
