the voice alittle.

Hi

I was referred by HEI to a doctor in Las Vegas, where I was living, for this

problem. Voice is very hoarse and weak from paralyzed cord. The doctor did

the surgery with saline to give me a temporary trial period. The plan was to

use teflon, which is permanant, but I haven't gone back yet. The trial period

went very well, people kept telling me I sounded a lot better. (clearer &

louder) I asked Dr. Brackmann at HEI about getting it done for real and he

said they are now doing a better procedure that requires putting a piece of

cardilage in the cord. He said the results are much better, less residual

probs with breathing, and its easily reversible. The guy he referred me to is

in Los Angeles and I plan to see him next March, after I get vacation time in

my new job. Ask about this on your visit to HEI.

Hi, I have been there and done that!!! Yes it works great!!! Only they

used Teflon!!!! It enabled the vocal cord that was paralyzed to pick up

vibes from the one that was working. I completely lost my voice. GO

FOR IT!!!!!!!!! This is day surgery in Canada so you will have no problem

with it in the States!!!!!!

Marnie.

I have not discussed removal or treatment of the tumor with any

doctors. I did discuss the other options a good while back, but I

could not convince myself to pursue the matter further. I have been

lucky that my tumors seem to be growing slowly or not at all. But my

voice has started getting worse w/o the tumor showing any growth???

I

guess any growth even though not perceivable on MRIs can cause new

problems.

I saw a doctor at Emory University in Atlanta. The only option he

gave me was silicone injections. He mentioned a surgical procedure

where they physically move the vocal chord over closer to the

mid-line. However, he said this could be dangerous in my case. He

thought there was another tumor, though very small, on the other

Vagus nerve. He indicated I could run into serious breathing

problems

if the other cord was to become paralyzed as well.

Thanks so much for all the info everyone is sharing with me! It is

so

helpful to be able to get info from people who have been there.
