Guest guest
I've always had cramps with my period and, over the past 2 years, they have gotten worse. I've found that if you start taking Motrin/Advil about 2 days before (or just as soon as you know you are starting) and take it regularly for the amount of time you have cramps (for me usually the first 3 days), then the meds seem to work. I used to be able to take 200 mg every 4 hours but usually start by taking 600 mg now. Hope this helps. Ann

I had horrible cramping too. But when I started using heated castor oil packs three nights a week, following Northrup's vitamin/mineral program, and got stricter about following my diet, the cramps went down to almost nothing. (I guess that would be a 1 or 2 :-)). . . . . . On the other hand, it may just be a natural progression as I am now 55. Good luck. Guest guest
I have to agree with the similarities to contractions! As a matter of fact, I had just said that to my husband about 1 hour before reading the responses!!! Too funny - I never went through full vaginal labor and birth, but my contractions were literally off the carts when monitored. At any rate, I have tried the advil route. I take at least 4 at a time and nothing. I'm concerned with my stomach lining! I also have naprosen (sp?) and that does nothing! I have never heard of ponstan. What is that? I will look it up - however the codeine sound like HEAVEN right now!!! I'm not really clotting like last time, just these horrible cramps. I thank you all for your help and advice, and if anyone else has any ideas - PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING!!! I hate to beg but I'm out on a very high limb, thin ice, or what ever else can explain my desperation!!! Thanks,
Guest guest
Dear , I haven't had time to read all of your postings so excuse me if I'm being repetitive. Have you tried a heating pad? Are you drinking lots of water? Make sure you aren't constipated (it only adds to all the pain and pressure). Have you called your doctor? Even though its a weekend, you should be able to call/page him and tell him you are in a great deal of pain. I've had a lot of pain too and thought I was being a baby. But, everyone's experience and pain level is so different...it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Do what you need to do to feel better and get through this. Take Care,
Guest guest
, I had bad cramping - I called it contractions although since I don't have kids I don't really know - mainly when I was passing big blood clots. Sometimes if I took Ponstan right at the beginning it helped, otherwise generally no relief until the clot passed - and then sometimes it would start up again after half an hour as the next clot made its way down. I never had much cramping with my period so this was a really new nasty experience. PS Got a cool med over the counter in Scotland - combo of three drugs, one a muscle relaxer, and 8 mg codeine. Don't think I could get that here without a prescription! Took one several times shortly after the Ponstan when it didn't work but had little effect too. ktrb9 wrote: > Does anyone, anywhere, know of something to help with the God awful > cramping associated with these wonderful little creatures growing in > my uterus? Guest guest
Try a hot bath -- works wonders when the cramping is in your legs and back. Codeine is very helpful in addition to Motrin. Mention torodol to your doctor. This is the ONLY thing that has truly given me relief. Other than that ... sleep and someone to pamper you. Wishing you well, Jana
Guest guest
, I finally broke down and called my DR. Thankfully " MY " DR was the one on call. He gave me a script for Celebrex - so far it's not helping a lot but I'm still hopeful! I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of in order to manage the pain. I'm just not doing it well. Maybe the idea of Yoga and Meditation would help. At this point if someone said standing on my head would help you'd find me upside down forever!! ;-) Thanks,
Guest guest
Jana, Thanks I will be calling my DR AGAIN tomorrow and will ask about the Torodol! The Celebrex he gave me did absolutely nothing. He di seem to understand that I was in pain because he said " we'll try this and see if we can get you through the weekend " I am hoping that maybe this will inspire them to see me sooner than the 21st for the ultrasound! I am just so glad it was " MY " DR that was on call I can't even tell you! He was the one who did the original myo and knows my complete history. For anyone in the CT area I strongly recommend him. His name is Dr. Holden. He's in Waterbury, CT with a practice called " Associated Women's Health " I'm not really fond of the others in the practice, but he is one of the best DR.s I have ever met. Great bed side manners and VERY knowledgeable!!! Well, I'm off to a hot bath and hopefully some relief so I can sleep! Guest guest
, There's also acupuncture. I haven't used it for cramps....yet. But, I have used it for really bad TMJ headaches. Its bizarre, but it worked, and it doesn't hurt like I thought it would. Hope something works soon. --

If you look it up -- it is to be used for only 4-5 days!!!! I took it for just 3 days and was deathly ill with severe gas pains. I had 2 injections of it during my UAE, then took it for another 3 days--by the 3rd day of oral meds I was in agony with the pains in my upper stomach! Guest guest
, According to a book on prescription drugs that I have, Ponstan's generic names are Meclofenamate or mefenamic acid. Other trade names are Meclodium, Meclomen, and Ponstel. they are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Should be available by prescription. My book warns not to take more than a week straight, but the doctor in Scotland didn't tell me this and gave me three weeks' worth (at three pills a day). Check with your doctor. Anti-inflammatories can also be very hard on your stomach. ktrb9@... wrote: > I have to agree with the similarities to contractions! Guest guest
I have yet to find a suitable pain remedy. I absolutely HATE to call the Drs. because they make it seem like I'm a pill junky - I'M NOT I just want the pain to break for a little while! I totally agree about the back pain! I was wondering how your bleeding was? I don't bleed to terribly much as of yet, but I almost feel that if I was I might not hurt so much!
