Guest guest
dora , i feel so sad for you. i have decided on a myomectomy instead of hysterectomy because a hysterectomy is just to final, i cant cope with the thought of what life would be like after having this surgery. would a myomectomy been a choice for you? my doctor has told me that he will do everything possible for me so that he wont have to perform a hysterectomy. it is still a possibility though. i am scheduled for a myo on march 28th. can i ask you exactly why you feel a hysterectomy has changed you and why you would never do it again? the first thing i will ask after waking up after having my myo will be did he have to give me a hysterectomy. i feel that this is only a last resort for me and i always wonder why more woman dont feel this way. so many women have said that the fact there wont be any more bleeding is the reason they choose hysterectomy. there are so many other factors to be considered. so many more than i ever thought after doing internet research. thanks for your post dora. laura
Guest guest
I think doctors will continue to recommend hysterectomy so long as women continue to accept them. It's just simpler for the doctor to perform. If more women refuse hysterectomies, and ask for referrals elsewhere, those hospitals and doctors who don't provide myomectomies, etc., will see that they are losing business, and they will have to consider making other options available. My hometown hospital and gynecologist don't offer these options, either, so I went elsewhere, even though I'd prefer to stay local. I can't believe the number of women I've talked to who have had hysterectomies, and think it's just fine. I think it's as much a matter of educating women as it is doctors--maybe even more so. Guest guest
Hi Randi, We met briefly in the chat room for the Plourde interview which was re-scheduled. Can we go back for a moment to the diagnosis? Do you have a good comfort level with this diagnosis and is it your first? You mentioned that you had an ultrasound. Was the diagnosis from your regular gynecologist or a gynecological specialist? Did s/he mention a more rare condition, Disseminated Peritoneal Leiomyomotosis, where numerous tumours attach to the round or broad ligament or was it just specific to the ovary? Do you think you could afford to request a second opinion with a specialist who could get an MRI for you? perhaps a more specifc and accurate image of exactly where on the ovary and other location(s) the fibroids are? If it confirms the first US, do you think your comfort level would increase knowing you searched other alternatives before a hysterectomy? If you do need a hysterectmy, I'm sure you'll find the support and care that you need to get through. I found a few good sites searching on google.com using search: " leiomyomas in ligaments and ovarian tissue " . Brigham's Hospital in Boston had a link to the DPL www.fibroids.net/html/ Any of the major US teaching hospitals may be helpful in discussing your situation if it is a rare condition. Take care now, Marsha articles5.html your Gyne show you the US images of the fibroids attached to the ovaries? Did s/he say the fibroids were on the round or broad ligaments? Did s/he say you might have > fibroids have attached themselves to both of my ovaries and there's a > fear that they may attach themselves to other organs. Apparently > they are so extensive on/in/over my uterus that UAE is not a possible > solution. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on regarding > fibroids and treatments and hysterectomy and all I read are horror > stories concerning hysterectomy. I know there must be women who are > happy with their decision to have a hysterectomy and right now I need > to get some positive feedback to help calm me. The thought of > hysterectomy really scares me and I've been doing everything in my > power to avoid it, but I think I'm past that now. Thank you. > Randi > drellis@i... Guest guest
My sister had a hysterectomy a few years ago and is so glad. She chose that as her option and is very glad about it. She wouldn't do it differently if she went through it again.
