Hysteroscopic resection is just a way of doing a myo

through the vagina so that no incision is needed. I

had the procedure done last month. My doctor also

offered to do the ablation at the same time if I

wanted, but I chose not to at that time. I wanted to

see what the effect of the resection was first. Also,

ablation destroys the uterine lining, making it more

difficult to diagnose endometrial cancer in the

future.

I believe it is because ablation does not remove the endometrium. It

only " cooks " the top layer to the bottom layer, thereby destroying

all the tissue in between and creating a thick shield of scar tissue

where the active endometrium used to be. There can always be small

amounts of living tissue left behind to bleed and turn malignant, or

cancer could proliferate under or around the scar tissue.

I am not really clear on all this myself. Maybe I

should have said uterine cancer. I have read that a

symptom of uterine cancer in post menopausal women is

bleeding, so if you are unable to bleed anymore

because the lining was destroyed you may miss an

important sign of cancer. I am also not sure if the

entire endometrium is destroyed in an ablation.

Anyway, it is something that I felt I needed to

research more before I went ahead and had an ablation.

(although the thought of no more periods is tempting)

I am hoping that the resection will make my periods

lighter and more manageable like they used to be.
