I still think it may be too soon to increase... but if you feel that you must, do the second 1/2 grain in the early afternoon. I would suggest monitoring your basals to watch how your system is handling it.....

If your heart rates starts increasing too rapidly, back off on the dosage.

IMHO, of course.

You have to keep in mind that it takes your body 4 to 6 weeks for the T4 levels from a dosage increase to fully affect your body.... It's possible to be over dosing a month or more before symptoms even appear.. then you have to back off meds and wait for that excess to be used up and then start all over again. The result is that you greatly increase the stress to your body and organs.... and end up taking longer to get to the point where you are feeling better.

How are you feeling?

I need some advise on dosing. I've been taking 1/2 grain of generic Armour for 2 weeks now and would like to increase another 1/2 grain. Would it be better to take it all in the morning or should I take the other 1/2 in the afternoon?

Thanks.

The more often you take it the better. This is because if you take

it all at once you get a big T3 spike in the morning when your

adrenals already have to put out twice the hormone. Also, you will

temporarily raise T3 out of the normal range and this will cause the

liver to go to work taking it out of the system to get levels down

where they should be. So, this is less efficient and causes waste of

T3. It is also harder on you to do it all at once. You may not have

much problem at low doses, but later on at higher doses, it will be

a killer.

Most thyroid patients take 2 doses 12 hours apart. Believe it or not

you need a little extra thryoid for sleep. It is used to help repair

the body. so, it is not bad usually to take a dose at night. I take

3 doses a day 8 hours apart because I have adrenal fatigue and the

T3 spike is hard on them. The body also works more efficiently on

more evel levels of T3. T3 in Armour gets used up pretty quickly -

in 3 to 8 hours usually.

You can increase your dose every two weeks untill you get around 2

to 2-1/2 grains, then it is better to wait 4 weeks before

increasing. this is so you can give enough time to normalize T4

levels in the blood. If you go up too fast at the higher doses, you

can quickly get into trouble and have your thyroid hormone levels go

too high before you know it. Often you have to go too high and get

hyper a little to know where your best dose is. But, you want to do

this slowly so you don't end up in the hospital getting medications

to lower it.

The healthy thryoid makes 4-1/2 to 5 grains a day. So when you get

past 3 grains is when you need to start paying a lot of attention to

how you feel. You can easily crash yourself at 4 or more grains.

Val,

I am up to 18 mcg T3, 4x daily and 35-40 HC. I have been on the T3 for 3 weeks.

When I increased the dose, it really helped. However, I am back to it running

out and being in lots of pain with joints/muscles again after 6 hours or so.

Should I only go to 75mcg and stay,

or can I go higher by 5 mcg when the pain returns.

If I don't increase T3, I will have to use pain medication.

Any help would be appreciated, Deb in MI
