Guest guest
Crikey Gang I cannot believe the horror stories on this subject..we have a totally different system in Oz . We have a government backed health care system here (paid for through our tax system) that lots of Aussies whinge about because of waiting lists etc. It’s not perfect but it looks after people with low incomes extremely well. Prescription Home Oxygen is free for people above a certain age (70 yrs I think) & for others who meet a means-test for income/assets. That of course leaves self-funded younger folk out in the cold as it were & I’m yet to face that financial hurdle. I’ll be paying for my own oxygen from what I can understand (this is a daunting prospect!) We also have a PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme) for everyone which keeps the cost of prescription medicines down dramatically. The Federal government subsidises all the medicines on this list. There’s often a lot of publicity when support groups for various diseases run big campaigns to get their latest helpful drugs included on this magic list. The politics of Illness! People here have Private Medical Insurance for hospital treatment but I’m pretty sure it won’t cover home-oxygen at all. Not that any of this helps or Joyce but I can’t help putting my two bobs worth in..I’m supposed to be doing the domestic-goddess thing right now! OOPS!
