Guest guest
All, Today I had my 6 month post UAE ultrasound. Today I consider my UAE about 58% successful. I'll explain. The three things I wanted/needed to fix w/ UAE was: 1) blood clots and heavy bleeding; 2) Urination frequency; 3) fibroid/stomach reduction. I translate this to 100% success = 33% + 33% + 33%. I no longer have blood clots and heavy bleeding = 33%. I've gained 2 hours sleep which is now 6 hrs maximum sleep w/o having to pee = 15% (I want 8 hours of sleep.). My stomach is mostly all there, but I have achieved 65% volume reduction in fibroid; pre 8/1/01 my fibroid was ~10cm, had UAE on 8/1/01; 3 months post UAE my fibroid was ~8cm; today my fibroid measured ~7cm. = I'll give this 10% success. So I consider my UAE ~58% successful at 6 months post UAE. I'm praying to the " UAE gods " for heavy discharge in the hope my fibroid will slough and BE GONE!!!!! My discharge is mostly light, I only get a little on about the 8th day after my first day of period. I have a mostly subserosal fibroid, partly intramural. - Debbie
Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I really like your mathematical approach to fibroids and UAE results. I am having embolization on Thursday. I am feeling nervous now. I am taking Wednesday off work to get myself ready (emotionally ) to this procedure. I hope my results will be positive. Thank you for your experience. Guest guest
Nina, Good Luck to you with your upcoming UAE. I plan to have UAE in a few weeks, the drs are comparing notes to be sure that is the right thing for me to do, but I believe it is. I am sure I will be scared & nervous too. You will be in my thoughts & prayers. Be sure to let us know how things go. All the best to you- Elise. Guest guest
Hi Debbie and Nina, I'm new to this webgroup and am also considering having a UAE. Do you think the UAE helps to stop hemorrhaging or does it take a long time to take effect? (Will I bleed to death waiting for the fibroids to shrink and die?). Also, do you know how UAE affects fertility? I appreciate any info. you can provide. Thanks,

Guest guest
, you should join the " embo " group on yahoo groups. It is especially for women who have had or are considering UAE. By the way, do you know what kind of fibroid you have? I had a small submucousal fibroid (inside the uterus) causing heavy bleeding, which is typical of even very small submucousals. I had it removed a month ago by hysteroscopic resection, an outpatient procedure with no incision. I had absolutely no pain after the procedure and was up and about the same day. --- SWilli4608@... wrote: > Hi Debbie and Nina, > I'm new to this webgroup and am also considering > having a UAE. Guest guest
, I assume when you say " hemorrhaging " you mean heavy bleeding, blood clots, and excessive periods. Yes, my blood clots and heavy bleeding went away on the first period after UAE. I think the rate of effectiveness for curing heavy bleeding problems w/ UAE is about 90% successful; check the archives to verify. None-the-less, you need to find out what kind of fibroids you have; e.g. submucosal fibroids can be treated w/ an outpatient hysteroscopic resection. At present, UAE is not recommended for someone that wants to have a baby after treating the fibroid. In other words, myomectomy is the safer route for a woman that wants to conceive. You really need to get on the yahoo groups embo site and look through all the archives. - Debbie Re: 6 months post UAE status report Hi Debbie and Nina, I'm new to this webgroup and am also considering having a UAE. Guest guest
Elsie, can you share what steps you went through to arrive at the decision to have UAE. I am planning to discuss a date for a UAE and I have talked to only one doctor at the National Naval Medical Center In Bethesda. He has done 5 of these procedures. I'd like to hear from others on the list serve as to whether I should talk to the other two doctors at this facility to determine which doctor is right for me. I want so much for this to be over, but I don't want to hurriedly force a solution because of my anxiety. Guest guest
Clayton, yes, main concern is doctor and his experience. Only done 5 procedures. Found out today that the National Naval Medical Center where he works has professional certification office where I can go and get information on his training and background. I plan to do that. Will make me feel more comfortable. Don't know how to find nurses who can tell me about him, which is what was recommended in several books I read and I noticed people here also say the talked to nurses where their doctor works. Yes, I have MRI and sonogram. Know size and location of my fibroids based on doctors report he wrote up.Just want to make sure I have dug deep enough before I have procedure. cheryl Re: Fwd: 6 months post UAE status report > > > > > > Nina, Good Luck to you with your upcoming UAE.
