Guest guest
thanks for the reply i believe it is laprascopic surgery you were thinking of. i hope you feel better soon lisa pedunculated fibroid hi, i am new to the group and my doc is recommending myomectomy for my 5cm pedunculated fibroid. it causes me some pain once in a while which is tolerable but no where the problems i have read from prior members such as heavy bleeding and cramping. my concern is this: i had a miscarriage a few months back and the doc thinks the fibroid could of been a contributing factor. my current gynecologist is a woman who i went to for a second opinion on my fibroid because the doc i was with for 10 years did not seem to concerned that i was concerned it could be cancerous. both my moms parents had cancer and my mom has breast cancer. my first doc said it did not have to come out if i could tolerate the pain. the second doc and who is now my current doc wanted to take the fibroid out before i got pregnant. i just do not know what to do. i do not have problems getting pregnant but hate to risk surgery. any suggestions out there beagledog10710 lisa

Guest guest
Hi, My name is and I too have a very similar story. About 10 years ago I had a miscarriage with triplets and had to have a D & E. After 9 months of trying to conceive again I was diagnosed with secondary infertility. After almost a year of infertility workups (no infertility drugs were used) I was diagnosed with a fibroid the size of a walnut. This was found through laparoscopy. A month later I had a myomectomy and the operation that was scheduled to last 2 hours lasted 5. My fibroid was so large that the Dr. could only take out 70% of it so he could leave my uterus intact. We wanted one more child. Three months later I was pregnant with my daughter. At delivery The Dr. said she saw no signs of the remaining fibroid, apparently pregnancy does some pretty miraculous things such as cut off the blood supply to the fibroid causing it to die. However I know that previous to this I had 3 miscarriages and I'm sure that the fibroid was the cause. I think you should take care of the problem before you try to get pregnant again. I really feel that I lost a total of 7 babies due to the fibroid and this could have been avoided. We seem to have a lot in common with the maternal cancer in our families. My Mom had breast cancer 36 years ago which metastasized to her reproductive organs causing her to have a hysterectomy. Ultimately it ended up in her liver which by then it was too late. I know that medicine is so much better and I'm sure that your mom will have great odds of beating this. Good Luck to you. I am now facing a hysterectomy as my fibroid has come back with a vengeance plus about 6 more smaller ones. I'm scared but know that I have no choice but to have the surgery. My uterus is very thin and I'm losing so much blood that I was on the verge of having to have a transfusion last weekend. Even though I think my child bearing days are over (I'll be 41 next month) I still feel sad that this is something that I will never be able to do again. But the thought of never having a period again thrills me! Anyways, take care and I'm sure You'll make the right decision.
