Media Coordinator and Project Assistant, Local Voices India

Location: Chennai, India

Please note: This is a local labor position with no relocation or expatriate

benefits. This is a full-time position.

Internews Network is currently seeking a Project Assistant to support our Local

Voices youth-focused health reporting project in India. Local Voices is

designed to support print media and radio broadcasters in creating high-quality,

locally relevant coverage of HIV/AIDS issues for their audiences and provide

support for NGOs in their communication with media. Essential duties and

responsibilities of the position include the following:

• Assist the Project Director and HIV/AIDS Adviser in overall project

implementation

• Provide logistical support for project activities such as workshops

• Manage the day to day running of the Media Resource Center for Journalists

including maintaining the library of print and audio visual resources; assisting

journalists with online searches for information and monitoring journalists’

usage of the MRC

• Monitor local coverage of HIV/AIDS in select media and maintain bulletin

board at the MRC

• Assist with the preparation of reports to the funder and budgets (write, edit,

proof, revise)

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 5 years experience in supportive positions/project assistant in

communication related projects dealing with media

• Grasp of the media environment in Tamil Nadu

• Experience in working closely with media professionals

• Experience as a working journalist, strongly preferred

• Sound understanding of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India

• Experience working with NGOs that work in HIV/AIDS or health issues

• Ability to support a diverse team

• Ability to complete tasks on time

• Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills

• Excellent writing and communication skills

• Excellent budget drafting and management skills

• Experience with data management

• Relevant degree

• Strong computer skills, including MS Office suite

• Fluency in native-level English as well as local language (Tamil) –reading

writing and speaking
