Guest guest
Hi , I'm about 2 1/2 months post UAE, and would do it again if I had to! I can't tell you much about the procedure itself, or even the hours afterwards as I was completely out of it. The IR and my husband both said I was awake and talking, but I don't remember a thing. But I do know about the results. 3 periods so far, each very light. This I can handle! A little spotting a couple of days before each, but nothing a panty liner take care of. Considering I had to wear a liner or pad every day in case of heavy spotting pre-UAE, I'm very happy. And I had the typical heavy periods with clotting that go with these monsters. No more! Knock on wood that it stays that way! Go for my 3 month check-up soon and we'll see how much shrinkage I've had. I can only tell a little so far - but the hard mass is gone. I figure my body is just taking its time getting back into its old shape, those fibroids were there for ever so long. There was pain after the procedure, managed by drugs and the worst gone in a day. Some lesser pain, more like cramps, the next few days, but nothing as bad as the cramps during my periods pre-UAE. More problems with nausea lingering. If I'd just laid off the Percocet sooner - which I believe is what caused my nausea - I'd have felt better. Quit those, took some regular OTC tylenol and got along fine. Went to work for a couple of hours 3 days later, full time again in a week. Only lingering affect were my aching legs. When I stood for any length of time, my upper legs would ache like I'd overdone exercising. As far as the possible complications - well, everything has those. Myoectomy, hysterectomy, and certainly doing nothing - all have the potential for complications. I just chose the one I saw as having the least risk, and I figured if it didn't work, then there were more drastic alternatives. But if you start out with the hysterectomy (which my ex-gyns recommended), where do you go if you don't like the outcome? Good luck! > Hello there -- > I've decided to have UAE for my three fibroids (none of which seem to > be pedunculated), after a very rocky year that saw me become so very > anaemic that this past October, the nice Doc-in-the-Box wouldn't agree > to let me fly (back to the UK) the following week without a > transfusion -- a nice way to spend Saturday morning, having two pints > of blood instead of two pints of bitters, I don't think. > > My own gynaecologist here in California (my husband and I moved here > about 18 months ago) has finally come around to thinking the UAE is a > better option for me than a hysterectomy (talk about using a pile > driver to squeeze an orange).[some other day I'll rant about how every > male doctor, and my female ob-gyn, all automatically said, why not > just have hysterectomy and have done with it!] The IR seems very good, > patient and caring; as of 3 wks ago, he'd done 48 procedures himself > and assisted at 300 others. > > But now my feet are getting good and cold. Guest guest
Glad to hear the encouraging news, I went to my dr today to discuss UAE & he was very supportive & informed. This was my regular family dr. I'm hoping to have the procedure by springtime (if not sooner) Hope I have the great results I have heard from several people. Good Luck to you. -Elise. chriscrum wrote: Hi , I'm about 2 1/2 months post UAE, and would do it again if I had to! Guest guest
Well, I don't know if I am too late to wish you well before your UAE tomorrow, but I do wish you well - and if you're up late reading this, try not to worry! I had UAE 10 months ago, and it has been a great success for me so far. I am 46 and had an 8 cm intramural fibroid causing mostly urinary symptoms (difficulty urinating, and the urge to go frequently) and back pain. My urinary symptoms and the back pain were gone almost immediately after UAE. My cramps were not terribly bad before, compared to others on this list, but as an added bonus, they are almost nonexistent now. Recovery time was quick also. My only problem was nausea from the pain meds, and I did have to stay in the hospital an extra night - however, my procedure got started late in the day also, so that contributed to the extra night's stay, I expect. My pain meds were adequate and kept me comfortable immediately after the UAE. I was off all pain meds except the anti-inflammatory after 4 days. The anti-inflammatory, they want you to use up, and that was 7 days. I had no discomfort or bruising at the groin area where they insert the catheter. It was a little bitty nick of a scar, which you can't even see now. My fibroid shrunk about 35% after 3 months, as best I can tell. It shows more shrinkage when compared with the pre-UAE MRI than with the pre-UAE ultrasound. I will have another ultrasound in two months. I feel some more shrinkage has occurred, but my stomach is not flat, so who knows how much. It doesn't bother me or look out of proportion, really, so I don't care about that. My symptoms are totally gone, and I feel great. I hope you will have good results, too. I was worried and scared before my UAE, but it was easy - and successful - and I couldn't be happier with the results. Best wishes, and let us know how things go... B. help - UAE on Wed 30Jan am & I'm nervous! Hello there -- I've decided to have UAE for my three fibroids (none of which seem to be pedunculated), after a very rocky year that saw me become so very anaemic that this past October, the nice Doc-in-the-Box wouldn't agree to let me fly (back to the UK) the following week without a transfusion -- a nice way to spend Saturday morning, having two pints of blood instead of two pints of bitters, I don't think. My own gynaecologist here in California (my husband and I moved here about 18 months ago) has finally come around to thinking the UAE is a better option for me than a hysterectomy (talk about using a pile driver to squeeze an orange).[some other day I'll rant about how every male doctor, and my female ob-gyn, all automatically said, why not just have hysterectomy and have done with it!] The IR seems very good, patient and caring; as of 3 wks ago, he'd done 48 procedures himself and assisted at 300 others. But now my feet are getting good and cold. I keep tripping over medical reports websites listing complications like necrosis of uterine tissue, post-embolisation syndrome, god knows what, and it's scaring me stupid. I know the way life has been (you already know: the clots, periods lasting 10-14 days, leaking through on a restaurant chair...) can't go on, but now I'm afraid to go forward. Please, has anyone had UAE recently and would care to comment on how the procedure went? I read - no devoured! - the one report here written last year, and found it sooooo reassuring! Best regards,
