Guest guest
Yes, I just had my myomectomy too. I had 5 fibroids removed. I have gas too, but you need a stool softener. They recommended Colage. Its over the counter. Myo recovery - questions Hello all, I just had a myo a few days ago (1/3) and I'm home recovering. I'm still too wasted to be on the computer long, so I'll have to post more information later. So far, I've noticed that my abdomen and stomach, all the way up under my rib cage, have been extremely bloated and feel tight as a drum. Touching them is painful. This is the source of most of my pain. I believe this is gas caused by the surgery, since it is actually above the point of incision Is there anything you can do to eliminate the gas from your body more quickly? I've walked a bit each day. I can't handle walking much. My back muscles are becoming way too sore. Any advice is helpful. I'm taking a generic version of Percocet for pain and Vioxx for inflammation. Actually, I only took one Percocet today. I was doing pretty well with just Motrin but I'm going to go back to Percocet now to help me sleep tonight. Thanks for your help. All of your words of encouragement before the surgery helped more than you'll ever know.

Guest guest
: I am 4 weeks post myo and still have the swelling above the incision. It is still tender and numb. For gas ... if it is painful and you need some relief the doctor recommended for me to use Gas X to relieve the symptoms. I am told the bloated, tender stomach takes several weeks to go down. It is mainly inflamation and gas, nothing to worry about. I know, it's uncomfortable and ugly to look at, but I'm also taking it day to day. Take it easy and rest a lot. It's week 4 for me and I'm back at work today. I did laundry last night and washed my car this morning. Best,

Guest guest
: My incision is about 4 inches long. It is below the pubic line and is barely noticeable. For scars there is a product called Ederma (over counter). I am using cocoa butter right now, since my sister recommended it after her C-sections. However the scar doesn't bother me because it is so low I could wear a bikini and no one would even be able to see it. (Like I would wear a bikini now anyway :-)
Guest guest
Cograts to both and Jaki on your bravery through surgery! I thought that the gas pain after my myo was worse than the incision pain! The only thing that really made it go away for me was moving around and walking as much as I could handle, although maybe it was just the effort of walking that took my mind off of it. I also took Colase (sp?) but remember that it was at least a week before things were back to normal functioning. I wish you both the best of luck and an easy and uneventful recovery! You did it! Guest guest
, Your experience must definitely be a bit smoother than mine, because it's too early for me to say yet whether I would have a second myomectomy. I chose myomectomy over UAE this time around, but if I have a recurrence, I may opt for the UAE next time. It will depend on the circumstances. I guess in a few weeks it will seem like it wasn't so bad, but I'm very impatient about healing. Even though I improve a bit each day, being in any pain is very trying. I want to be running and hiking, playing with my dogs again. It's only been four days for me, so I should feel fairly content with my progress. My back muscles are getting extremely sore. Did others notice that? I guess they try to stabilize the body and compensate for any pain in the abs. About the gas, I'm hesitant to use a stool softener because I haven't had any constipation. I had my first bowel movement on 1/6 (surgery was on 1/3) and I had another this morning. I have had some prune juice to make sure things are moving, and things have already been a bit " looser " than I'd prefer. I'll be posting more later. I can't sit up too long without my back really aching. Congrats on what seems to be a truly easy recovery for you. Best wishes,

Guest guest
Thanks , Your post was very encouraging. My stomach and abdomen look huge, feel like a drum. I think one of the hardest parts is not knowing what to expect...my doctor said he thought my recovery should be pretty easy because he didn't have to do a lot of cutting. If I know to expect weeks of bloating, it's easier than if it's just " up in the air. " I do feel better each day and need to be thankful for that. Congratulation on your return to work. Guest guest
Several people responded to a similar question I asked and said a product called " Mederma " is supposed to be great for scars. I bought some at Walgreens. It's expensive (about $25-30 for a tube). I also bought an oil from a local health food store called " Scaro " . It's supposed to be massaged into the skin. I heard massage is good for scar tissue, so the massage may do more than the oil itself. It's too soon after my myo to use these products yet, but I already have them. Guest guest
You are right. The gas pains are the worse of the surgery. When I would fart I would get soooo happy! Guest guest
My doctor had recommended using Vitamen e and massaging it into the scar. Since I recently had my myo, I'm also gathering info and products ;-) Do you think it would hurt to use Mederma as well as Vitamin E? (I bought some liquid vitamin e, btw, from http://www.puritan.com which has good quality inexpensive vitamins). > > Several people responded to a similar question I asked and said a product > called " Mederma " is supposed to be great for scars. Guest guest
Hi. I just had a myo on Jan 15th. Today is the first day that I feel really decent and I had a chance to read my email. I felt gassy after the surgery but that eventually goes away. Gas also is a sign that your bowels are working according to the doctor. Gas is a sign that the body is pushing out excrement. So...to help it along I have found that if you use a stool softener the night before or a suppository or both together, it will push that stool right out and I mean right out!!! Like a boa constrictor! And eat lots of fruit and drink tons of water and prunes!!! If that don't do the trick...try dyn-o-mite!!! HA! HA! Have a good recovery....YOUR FREE!
