hi, i am 44. i am trying to decide between a uae or a myectomy. i just read

your post and your myectomy experience sounds wonderful. did you ever think

of having a uae and if u did what persuaded you to have the myomectomy done

instead? i am scheduled for uae feb 12th but now am wondering if a

myomectomy maybe the better way to go for me. my fibroids are grapefruit and

baseball size.

Good to hear you had a great experience! Rest a lot and be good to

yourself.

I am 4 weeks post myo and back at work today. I'm pretty much doing

everything I did before surgery except heavy lifting and exercise. I see my

doctor on Wednesday for my follow-up and I'm hoping he'll give me a go-ahead

for some exercise.

To others who may be nervous about surgery, it is normal to feel that way,

but know recovery will come quickly and you'll be back to your normal

activities soon -- oh yeah and fibroid free.

Hi :

I would without a doubt get the myomectomy. I spoke with a Dr. Goldstein in

New York who does a lot of myomectomies and he even said the myomectomy was

better. I would rather have those ugly things just flat out removed. I tell

you, I am the scariest person in the whole world and it was an absolute breeze.

The only problems I am having is the sore muscles which is expected. Nothing

worse than the symptoms I had when I had those nasty fibroids. I would cancel

the UAE for sure. Just make sure that you have a good conversation with the

anesthesiologist and make sure that you find a skilled surgeon that can remove

and reconstruct your uterus. My doctor is fabulous. His name is Dr. Lloyd

Greig and he has been doing myomectomies for over 30 years. He is gentle and

has a wonderful bedside manner. I can tell that he is gentle because I'm not in

a lot of pain. I feel blessed! Thank you God that its over. I would do it

again if I had too.

Thank you. My myomectomy was the best decision I have ever made regarding my

health. Why waste time waiting for those nasty toxic things to shrink via UAE

when you can have them instantly removed. I was so afraid of the surgery that I

wanted to throw up b4 going into surgery. They gave me something to calm my

nerves and I woke up without any nausea. It was like waking up from a nap.

Nice and pleasant. I'm happy!

unless I went on Lupron. I said, NO way! Lupron puts your body into immediate

menopause. I tried Lupron for one day and couldn't handle it. I changed

doctors and my doctor told me that he doesn't use that protocol because

sometimes it doesn't work. My doctor is accustomed to removing the largest most

complex fibroids out of a woman's body. He believes in donating your own blood

(2 pints) and thats it. That Lupron is no joke. I would probably seek another

opinion.

How did you try Lupron for one day?

Lupron is an injection>you can't try it for one day.

prefer not to use the hospital here. My gynecologist, who I have worked

with for years, and who is an excellent surgeon, moved out of state just as

I need to have my fibroids removed. He recommended another surgeon, who is

pushing hysterectomy. I will meet with him on Thursday to tell him that I

definitely want a myomectomy. However, I am able to travel to other

cities for surgery. I have family in New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles

and Dallas. I would appreciate any recommendations for the best doctor to

do myomectomy in these cities. Thank you. A.P.

I agree with Bonnie,

After visiting a number of surgeons I am having my surgery in February. I was

advised NOT to take ANY Hormones like Lupron before surgery as they make the

border between fibroid mass and uterus fuzzy. Well I want my surgeon to see

what he is removing. I dont want him to remove any healthy uterus tissues.

This makes sense to me.

I just wanted to comment here on blood loss during surgery.Again,I would have to

say this depends a

lot of the surgeons skills.I saw 2 surgeons who both foresaw a transfusion and

wanted me to donate 2

or 3 units of my own blood beforehand.The surgeon I finally decided on thought

that if I was going to

have a bleeding problem it would most likely require more than 2 or 3 units.In

the end I did not need

a transfusion,but in my case my hemoglobin was not very low and I only became

very,very slightly

anemic after surgery which was corrected within a month or so.

Hi! I just had a myo on Jan 15th. I wouldn't try UAE until more studies are

made. It's too soon. Too many complications!! Besides, if you have a good

doctor who has your interests at hand he/she will do everything to save your

uterus. I'm from Phila and I had Dr. Glassner in Bryn Mawr, PA do mine. He is
