Guest guest
Hi Martha, My understanding is that people who have had hearing and then lost it are good candidates for an implant. I know for example that Rush Limbaugh and that Miss America who was deaf have both recently had implants. The issue with was/is how his brain is going to make sense out of sound. Quite likely that part of the brain is being used for other senses right now. We know that his auditory nerve works, as they directly tested it this summer. is healing well at this point. So far he has left the tape over his sutures alone. Not sure how long he'll do that, but I'm hoping the full 10 days at least. He is probably ready to go back to school, but we decided to keep him home one more day at least just so we can be sure he's feeling well. Activation of the implant is scheduled for Nov 7 and 8.
